ESK’s Children’s Day Extravaganza

Mustafa Kemal Ataturk once said “Little ladies, little gentlemen, you are the rose, the star and the light of our future. Always be aware of your value and significance! And work hard… We have great expectations from you.”

On the 23rd April, North Cyprus and Turkey celebrate National Sovereignty & Children’s Day, a national holiday celebrating Children, the next generation that will light up our future. Throughout the day, special parades are held in each city, and schools celebrate with traditional Turkish-Cypriot Dances, singing and poem recitals.

This year, we were overjoyed to welcome parents back on campus. After two years of online celebrations, primary students were able to perform in front of a live audience once again.

The campus was filled with lively music, dancing and LOTS of smiles.

The Primary Student Council team welcomed our guests and explained the significance of this day, which the former leader Ataturk, bestowed on Children. Each year group had a chance to perform a special song in Turkish, followed by one in English. Year 5 students were tasked with a very special performance … Dressed in traditional clothing, students performed three traditional Turkish-Cypriot dances. The boys certainly got the crowd cheering, as they balanced cups of water on their heads!

We are delighted to share some beautiful moments captured from this special day.

It was wonderful to see parents joining in with the dancing too. A truly spectacular and memorable event for all who attended! Happy Children’s Day!
