Madeline’s Journey: Embracing Growth and Memories in Schaffhausen

Madeline is 18 years old and from Vietnam. She is currently studying at the International School of Schaffhausen in the Diploma Programme.

I have been living in Schaffhausen for 454 days. To me, this city is more special as it is the first foreign place I have been to in my entire life. Hence, Schaffhausen is not just my second home but also where my personal growth, formidable obstacles, and mindset transition have been most exposed. It’s beautiful due to its breathtaking view and my youth memories.

The first thing that pops up in my head whenever I think about Schaffhausen is the Rhein Fall. It is considered the most powerful waterfall in Europe. When I watched the video on YouTube, I was already impressed with its beauty. However, the reality was even better when I could observe the lively scene with pure water, strong waves, and adorable boats, mixed with the sound of the waterfall and various languages. Whenever I feel stressed, I go there, close my eyes, and let the waves heal my soul. This place is also ideal for picnics, camping, and dates. It is genuinely worth visiting!

Another place that I adore is the town. I can go to the library, supermarkets, restaurants, and so on there. It’s such a busy place! Schaffhausen has everything like a city, but its residents bring me a peaceful feeling like the countryside. The people are super friendly and helpful. I didn’t expect a bus driver to talk to me, an old man to console me when I was homesick, or a kid to pick up my wallet. These little moments made my day back then, taking away all of my negativity.

I’m grateful for living in Schaffhausen. Having visited to 20 different cities in 7 countries, none of them can replace the position of Schaffhausen in my heart. I hope I will be able to discover more exciting things in this city before graduating
