The modern boarding school experience

While boarding schools like Rugby School Thailand may have 455 years of rich British boarding school heritage, the modern boarding experience is worlds apart from that of previous generations.

Modern Conveniences

Rugby School Thailand was designed and built in 2015/16. The School’s purpose-built boarding houses all have high-quality modern facilities, such as kitchens, common rooms, study rooms, music practice areas, comfortable age-appropriate dormitories, and en-suite bedrooms for the oldest boarding students. There are no rattling windows and drafty bedrooms here!

Dynamic & Immersive Learning Environment

British boarding schools tend to offer range of opportunities, with both breadth and depth. This is certainly true of Rugby School Thailand, which has longer days incorporating sport, enrichment and homework. When the day students head home, the boarders continue to reap the benefits of the dynamic enrichment programmes run by highly qualified staff, and they have access to all of the world-class facilities at the School! The non-native English speakers are immersed in an English-speaking environment that develops their language rapidly.

Academic Stimulation

A good boarding school not only offers a home from home, but also academic stimulation. At Rugby School Thailand the students gain additional access to teaching staff (who support activities and act as house tutors), building a strong rapport with individual mentorship.

In addition to academic support and study time outside of school hours, there is also the positive influence of peer-on-peer living; boarding students are motivated by each other as they make their academic journey.

Early independence

Boarding students become responsible for own lives more quickly than their day school counterparts. At Rugby School Thailand the house staff encourage everyone living in the house to make their own beds, clear up the kitchen and look after their possessions. By developing tenacity and independence, these students are usually far ahead of peers as they move from School to further education.

Excellent Food

There was a time when the words “school food” would have been synonymous with overcooked vegetables and gruel-like soups. Rugby School Thailand puts a lot of time into ensuring the catering for all students gives children access to a variety of nutritious, healthy food. With an understanding of individual tastes and our international community, every meal will have western and Asian options, a colourful salad bar and seasonal fruits. This approach is embedded into the boarding meals too, but with cuisine ‘themes’ each evening (everything from Thai and Korean, to French and Italian) and a popular weekend ‘brunch’.

Access to Home

For past generations, boarding school would have meant children had limited access to their family, with weekly letter writing and infrequent trips home. In the 21st century, we have technology which means children are never more than a video call from home! They can reap the benefits of boarding life whilst maintaining a nurturing bond with family. Rugby School Thailand also offers flexible options to suit different families, with Part, Weekly and Full boarding all available.
