Resilience in Action: Year 10 Students Inspired by Cisco Garcia’s Journey

On Tuesday, October 29th, our Year 10 students attended an inspiring and transformative talk-workshop featuring Cisco Garcia, a remarkable Paralympic tennis player, lawyer, and author. The event took place in the auditorium of the Faculty of Education and Psychology at the University of Córdoba, offering our students a unique opportunity to hear from a speaker whose life story exemplifies resilience, courage, and personal growth. Cisco shared his journey following a life-changing snowboarding accident in Austria that left him paraplegic. Rather than allowing this accident to define or limit him, he chose to rebuild his life with new purpose, channeling his energy into competitive sports and a professional career in law and writing.

Throughout the workshop, Cisco emphasized the importance of resilience, a value he considers fundamental to overcoming any obstacle. He delved into the sporting values that have sustained him, such as discipline, perseverance, and a growth mindset. Cisco also generously shared practical tools he has developed to navigate the challenges he faces, including self-discipline, emotional management, and an unwavering commitment to his goals. These tools and values have been instrumental in his personal journey and were offered as guidance for our students in approaching their own challenges and aspirations.

Students left the event feeling motivated and empowered, with Cisco’s story serving as a powerful reminder of the strength within each person to overcome adversity and pursue their dreams. The experience not only broadened their perspectives but also underscored the potential for resilience to unlock new opportunities, regardless of the obstacles in one’s path.
