Putting Epidermolysis Bullosa in the Spotlight

Epidermolysis Bullosa also known as EB, is a painful and debilitating disease caused by a gene mutation which hinders a body’s protein production or a functional form of protein.

Patients suffering from EB have an incredibly sensitive skin, as sensitive as the wings of a butterfly which is the reason why children suffering from EB are also known as the ‘butterfly children.’

At the beginning of every new academic school year, the students of Institut Montana Zugerberg vote on various proposed charities in order to ultimately provide a platform from which they can use to make a difference. This year, DEBRA Schweiz was selected, a foundation that supports the butterfly children. According to Debra International, approximately 1 in 17,000 live births, with an estimated 500,000 people worldwide are living with EB.

Thus various activities have been created in order to increase funds for this charity.
