Leading International School in Hangzhou pioneers the way in community care and transitions

Hangzhou International School (HIS) is leading the way in pastoral care and community support. As a pioneering pilot school member of Safe Passage Across Networks (SPAN), HIS has made significant strides in supporting healthy transitions within the international school community.

In 2022, HIS solidified its commitment by becoming the first official SPAN Member School, a distinction it still holds as the sole member in China.

HIS stands at the forefront of this extraordinary initiative through SPAN and collaborates with esteemed organizations such as Families in Global Transition (FIGT), to extend support to all students, families, and faculty. With over 50 nationalities represented in its diverse international community, the school often faces unique challenges around mobility, transition, and emotional issues stemming from moving overseas.

“The key to a good arrival is a good departure, no matter where you go in the world.”

Whether arriving, orienting, integrating, or departing, HIS provides a dedicated Counseling Team and a Student Support Services Team to support students throughout the entire journey. Partnering with SPAN reinforces the school’s position as a pioneer in pastoral care, ensuring the highest standards of care for its students, parents, carers, faculty, and the wider community.
