LCS Students Achieve Success at the Canadian Intermediate and Senior Math Contests

At the beginning of December 2021, Lakefield College School students in Grades 9 through 12 strove for success in the Canadian Intermediate and Canadian Senior Math Contests. Congratulations to LCS students who achieved the following results:

Canadian Intermediate Mathematics Contest

A long answer contest typically written by students in Grades 9 and 10 that occurs in November, organized by the University of Waterloo. Responses are assessed not just for a correct final answer, but for the form, style, and clarity of the entire solution. The maximum possible score is 60.

School Champion and Medal Winner

For earning the top score at LCS at an achievement level higher than a threshold determined by the University of Waterloo.
Awarded to: Hansen ’25

Certificate of Distinction

For ranking in the top twenty-five percent of all contest participants worldwide. Awarded to: Hansen ’25, Evelyn 25, Eason ’25, and David 25

Zone Team Results

The combined score of this group of students earned LCS a second-place result in its local region area of Ontario, which includes all schools in Pickering, Port Hope, Whitby, Lindsay, Peterborough, Courtice, Bowmanville, Port Perry, Oshawa, and the Haliburton area.

Awarded to: Hansen ’25, Evelyn ’25, Eason ’25, and David ’25, and Tom ’24

The LCS team score was 207—a second-place result—and just three points shy of the first-place team from Cambridge International Academy in Ajax. Lakefield College School tied with Pickering High School for second place and finished 10 points higher than the fourth-place team from Trinity College School.

Of note: Jacobo earned a perfect score. For this contest, that is an extremely rare occurrence. He was one of only five students in the province of Ontario who earned a score between 58 and 60.

Zone Team Champions

The combined score of this group of five students earned Lakefield College School regional champion status for its area of Ontario, which includes all schools in Pickering, Port Hope, Whitby, Lindsay, Peterborough, Courtice, Bowmanville, Port Perry, Oshawa, and the Haliburton area.
