At The British School of Córdoba, the IB Extended Essay becomes a gateway to real-world learning and international collaboration. This was powerfully demonstrated by two Diploma Programme students, Haeiqa and Marta, who recently partnered with IMIBIC (Maimonides Institute for Biomedical Research of Córdoba) to conduct cutting-edge research for their Extended Essays.
Their work focused on biomedical topics that align with both global health issues and their own academic passions. Under the mentorship of IMIBIC researchers, Haeiqa and Marta explored real laboratory techniques, data analysis, and ethical dimensions of scientific inquiry—experiences rarely available to pre-university students.
What truly set their journey apart was the opportunity to present their findings at the II Congreso Científico Internacional “Eurociencia Joven”, an international science congress for students held in Spain. Speaking to a diverse audience of peers, scientists, and educators, they shared their research in a professional academic setting, gaining confidence, feedback, and a sense of purpose.
Their achievement reflects the spirit of the IB at The British School of Córdoba: connecting students to the world beyond the classroom, nurturing inquiry, and preparing them for global futures. Haeiqa and Marta’s success demonstrates how the Extended Essay can open doors—not just to university, but to meaningful, real-world engagement.
In a world that demands curiosity, collaboration, and critical thinking, these young researchers are already making their mark.
