Creating a Bespoke Educational Experience For Each Student

Find out our approach to bespoke education experience, what we look for in an applicant and how they benefit from the diverse and enriching academic program at LAS.

At Leysin American School, we offer a diverse and enriching academic program that allows students to achieve their future goals. This is why providing flexible courses is really important to us, and why we believe giving students the opportunity to mix and match their classes can work towards future success.

As a coeducational boarding school, we offer International Baccalaureate (IB) classes, Advanced Placement (AP) classes, pre-AP classes, regular section classes, and electives. There are, on average, 10 students per class, which provides specialised and personalised teaching, allowing students to grow and learn in a supportive environment with their peers.

How do we create a bespoke educational experience for each student?

Whichever academic program students choose, they are supported every step of the way by our dedicated university advisors and senior academic team. All students follow a university preparatory program and are enrolled in a minimum of seven courses. This gives them scope to experience a wide range of subjects and allows them to cater their studies to whichever university they’re hoping to study at in the future.

Many of our grade 11 and 12 students enroll in the IB Diploma Years Programme, which offers many general and specialized subjects to choose from. This gives students the opportunity to experience a flexible style of learning that develops and expands their subject knowledge. In 2022, 34% of our students achieved 38 IB points or higher, and we’re proud to say that 100% of our students passed the diploma, compared to the 86% world average.

Alternatively, the LAS high school diploma prepares for postsecondary success by allowing students to engage in core and exploratory programs in and outside the classroom. Students taking this program are also able to choose certain IB diploma courses to earn extra certificates, as well as AP classes.

At LAS, we believe in “developing innovative, compassionate, and responsible citizens of the world.” By enabling students to create a bespoke and flexible academic program, they are encouraged to take ownership of their postsecondary goals and, with the help of academic staff, choose the best future for themselves.
