At Leysin American School in Switzerland, we believe that every student’s path to university should be tailored to them. Our University Advising team is dedicated to providing bespoke guidance and helping students identify their strengths, passions, and goals to ensure they find the best possible post-secondary fit. With years of experience and connections to universities worldwide, our advisors go above and beyond to support students throughout this exciting and sometimes challenging process.
Here’s a closer look at how our advisors help LAS students on their journey to post-secondary success:
Personality and Interest Assessments
University advising at LAS begins early, laying the foundations for students to learn about themselves and make informed decisions. Grade 9 students start their journey with personality assessments designed to help them understand their traits, preferences, and strengths. These assessments provide valuable insights into potential career paths and lead to useful conversations about future goals.
In grade 10, the focus moves to more detailed tools like the Morrisby Test, Interest Profiler, and Work Values Assessment. Students identify careers and subjects that align with their skills and strengths through these activities. Using MaiaLearning, our online career and university platform, advisors follow up with students to ensure they engage and reflect on their results. These assessments form the foundation for academic and career advising, helping students make well-informed course choices and reach their long-term goals.
Cultural and University Visits
At LAS, we believe that experiencing real-world opportunities is very important. That’s why we have a University Advising trip in the fall to London, where students tour universities and learn more about the academic and social environments.
LAS also regularly hosts university representatives from around the globe. Students gain firsthand knowledge of the admissions process and campus life through these visits. LAS also regularly visits and hosts university fairs, where students can talk to universities and gain further knowledge and insight into their future choices.
Academic Advising and Student Success Classes
Academic advising is vital in helping students navigate course selections and align their academic journey with their university goals. Advisors work closely with students in grades 10 and 11 to develop personalized academic plans. Collaborating with the Associate Deans, University Advisors review these plans, ensuring they reflect a student’s academic strengths and future goals.
For grades 11 and 12, Student Success classes are an important part of the university advising process. These classes guide students through essential steps like writing application essays, preparing for interviews, and researching universities. This hands-on support ensures students have the tools and confidence to apply for their preferred universities or courses.
At LAS, students are supported in achieving their goals through an in-depth and supportive university advising program. Our advisors work hard to develop individualized plans that reflect each student’s unique abilities, interests, and ambitions. Whether a student pursues a university degree, a gap year, or another pathway, the LAS team ensures their journey is as smooth and successful as possible.
