Sports Day Fun at Acorn International School: A Tradition of Unity, Growth, and Joyful Competition

At Acorn International School, sports are more than extracurricular activities — they are an important part of our students’ complete development. As part of our commitment to helping students grow in all areas, physical education plays a key role in helping children grow not just physically, but emotionally and socially. Sports encourage values such as determination, teamwork, following rules, and understanding others — all important qualities for success both in and out of the classroom.

Throughout the academic year, students at Acorn enjoy a wide variety of after-school sports activities for different age groups. From volleyball and football to athletics for younger students and tennis, these activities support physical health, friendship, and a strong feeling of community.

A Beloved Tradition: Sports Day

Among the many exciting events of the school year, Sports Day stands out as a favorite and highly awaited tradition. This event shows Acorn’s focus on teamwork, school pride, and welcoming celebration. More than just a day of games, Sports Day is a chance to recognize the progress our students have made throughout the year and to build stronger connections between classmates, teachers, and families.

During the event, students are split into mixed-age teams and compete within the school’s House system — Rowling, Earhart, Hawking, and Miyazaki. These friendly competitions help students from different grades work together and support each other.

Led by teachers, students take part in a range of fun and active challenges designed to test their movement, coordination, and ability to work as a team. Staff and students wear their House colours with pride, creating a bright and cheerful atmosphere across the school grounds.

Community Involvement and Celebration

Parents are warmly invited to join Sports Day and cheer for the students, making it a truly happy and community-focused event.

At the end of the day, the House with the most points earns 50 bonus points — a rare and valuable prize that adds to the yearly House score. This final award not only lifts spirits but also supports teamwork and friendly competition throughout the school.

More Than Just a Game

Sports Day at Acorn International School reflects the heart of our school’s values: including everyone, helping students grow, and bringing the community together. It is a day full of fun, effort, and shared experiences — a joyful reminder of how sports can unite us and help every student shine.
