After two years of virtual and hybrid performances, the Lakefield College School Dance Company was thrilled to (safely) welcome LCS parents back to campus on November 25, 2021 for “ReLaunch”—an incredible live performance showcase. The show featured stunning student choreography and a wide variety of dance genres; it was truly a night to remember.
From aerial silks and hoops to jazz to a contemporary TikTok-themed performance, it was amazing to see so many different styles of movement. Throughout the evening, parents cheered our dancers on with gusto.
Head of School and Foundation Anne-Marie Kee watched the showcase twice in one week and said she was, “Super impressed with the talent, hard work and camaraderie of this group of students. Thanks to our amazing staff for inspiring our dancers.”
LCS Dance Company Coach, Geoff Bemrose spoke about the preparation required for a showcase of this scale. “Over 60 students in both the Dance Company co-curricular team and co-curricular dance classes have been working hard since September to create this amazing spectacle. Most of the dances are choreographed by students and the leadership they have demonstrated has been incredible. There are so many different genres represented: Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Circus Arts, Bollywood, Acro, Lyrical, K-Pop, Musical Theatre, Contemporary, and Traditional Chinese dance. Our dance team captains, Kate ’22, Kelly ’22, and Pia ’22, along with Dance Seniors-in-Charge (SICs), Ania ’22, Hana ’22, and Caroline ’22 have set a great example for our younger dancers by working hard and being inclusive. Behind the scenes, our dedicated tech students, Sophie ’22 and Anna ’24 have spent many hours learning our brand new lighting system as well as perfecting the art of lighting and sound design.”
LCS looks forward to upcoming live performances including a winter concert in December and Anything Goes! (a musical) in Spring 2022.
