Every season is spectacular at Leysin American School in Switzerland—we have a front row seat to breathtaking views of the vast valley below, ever-changing skies above, and dramatic mountains all around. But for us, campus feels extra special during orientation week. The sun is warm, the skies are bright, the fountains in town are still flowing, and the mountains seem to sparkle with the promise of new beginnings. The air is crisp and filled with anticipation, reflecting the excitement on our students’ faces as they begin their journey at LAS. We welcome them with a time-tested program of information sessions, activities, and friendly gatherings which we know help them settle into their new life at LAS with confidence and an immediate sense of belonging.
After over 60 years of welcoming students to Leysin American School, we have developed an orientation program that is both effective and enjoyable! Orientation week is about both the fun and the practical side of starting at LAS. Students check into their dorms, complete their academic placement testing, learn about online platforms, and register for their classes. Meals with student leaders, exploring Leysin (including the much-loved COOP!), trips to Montreux and Lausanne, and the long-standing tradition of the Berneuse Hiking Challenge allow students to strengthen friendships and develop a connection to the campus and the local area. Overall, orientation week is a great way for students to settle into their new routines, make friends, and feel at home in their new home in the breathtaking Swiss Alps.
Families also play an important role during Orientation Week at Leysin American School. We want them to feel confident that their child will receive the very best education and experiences, so we provide in-depth information sessions on academic advising, residential life, social and emotional wellbeing, athletics, and extracurricular activities. Our goal is for parents to know that their child is now part of the LAS Family, where they will be supported and given every opportunity to thrive academically, emotionally, and socially!
