November Open House at Fulford
In November 2018, Fulford Academy opened its doors to the community to come and explore the school, meet our teachers and students, and see what we are up to!
It was a beautiful, snowy evening on November 21st, and Fulford Academy invited our neighbors, members of our local community, families who are interested in our local student day program and families from Ottawa for our boarding program, to learn more about our school! Our campus is right across from the majestic St. Lawrence River, which tends to bring our area lots of snow, and it didn’t disappoint that day.
The Weather
As Canadians, we have to mention the weather! Earlier in the day of our open house event, we experienced snow squalls, which made the property winter-white and beautiful in preparation for our evening event. By the way, this was one of our first major snowfalls for the year, and many of our students had a blast playing in the snow in the morning before school!
The Highlights of the Evening
Our teachers, students, and admissions team were on hand to greet our visitors, including Mrs. Johanna Ziegler our Director of Admissions (far right) and our Student Travel & Academics Coordinator, Mrs.Cindy McCarthy (second from left).
We had a beautiful fire going in both the dining hall and the great hall fireplaces, a perfect way to warm up!
We offered tours to our guests by students and staff and showed off our classrooms and the projects that our grade 6 – 12 students are working on. In the Science lab, Mrs. Kristen Murray and Mrs. Melissa Best were on hand to demonstrate what students work on in their science classes.
Many of our neighbors and other members of the community came by to say hello! As part of a requirement of completion of their OSSD, students are required to spend a certain amount of time working within the local community doing volunteer work. We take pride in our contribution in supporting local animal shelters, supporting local hockey teams and other work that we do.
In our English classroom, Mr. Jeremy Devine was on hand to showcase media projects that our students have worked on, based on classic fiction books that students read and study as part of their OSSD studies.
Our Computer Science teacher Mr. Josh Rupert was also on hand with students to show off the computer lab.
