Located in Ferrara, northeast of Italy, Smiling International School is the oldest international school in the Emilia-Romagna region, with over 26 years of experience.
It is a private, international, bilingual school for students aged 2 to 18. Today, the school has over 450 students from 18 different nationalities. The school is recognised by the Ministry of Education and accredited centre by the University of Cambridge. Smiling is an International Baccalaureate® World School authorised to offer the IB Diploma Programme and candidate for the IB Middle Years Programme.
The school is located on two campuses within the city historical centre of Ferrara: Porta Mare Campus and Roversella Campus. The Porta Mare Campus, at Corso Porta Mare 117, comprises the Early Years and the Primary School up to 3rd grade. Porta Mare Campus presents two indoor gardens where children can play, a canteen, a gym and a dormitory, which makes it a toddler-friendly environment. The Roversella Campus, in Via Roversella 2, hosts the rest of the Primary School (4th and 5th grades), Secondary School, High School and IBDP classes. This campus is located in the beautiful Palazzo Gulinelli, a historic Renaissance building that offers a canteen, a gym and a spacious internal garden. Recently inaugurated, the Campus has a new science laboratory and an outdoor football pitch. Moreover, Palazzo Gulinelli accommodates students’ boarding school accommodation, each room is double with a private bathroom, communal kitchen, laundry and cleaning service included.
Smiling’s unique, innovative approach led NASA’s Houston Space Centre to select Smiling to launch its pilot project “Moonshot!” The school promotes innovation and internationalisation. Innovation is supported by technology for effective teaching, as well as through in-depth study of the workings of powerful computer equipment. Language learning reinforces Internationalisation as an integral part of all curricula and as a means of achieving CEFR certifications in English, Italian, Spanish and Chinese, essential tools for the students’ future.
