The Importance of Creative Subjects

Creative subjects, like art and music, are vital to children’s development because they nurture not just creativity, but also intellectual, emotional, and social growth. Engaging in music and art has been shown to strengthen memory and enhance language and reading skills – abilities that are foundational in subjects such as mathematics and science. Beyond academics, creativity also boosts self-confidence and supports resilience and problem-solving.

Creative engagement also contributes positively to mental well-being, as highlighted in a study by Crayola. Regular participation in cultural or artistic activities is associated with reduced stress, enhanced mood, and overall healthier living. All combined, creative subjects are far more than “fun extras”; they are essential building blocks for well-rounded, capable, and emotionally intelligent individuals.

What creative subjects do we offer?

Our online school offers art and music as subjects for primary school and secondary school students aged 5 to 16. Children are taught in live classroom lessons at scheduled weekly times. Lessons can also be accessed on-demand as an alternative if they cannot attend classes live.

Art

Our online art courses are available for students aged 5 to 16. Art education helps children build their creative skills as they learn to use tools such as paintbrushes, pencils, and pens, as well as more imaginative artistic mediums like sculpting, 3D modelling, and mosaics. Art invites imagination and originality as children explore techniques and materials. They will learn to think creatively, experiment without fear, and develop innovative thinking. Children will learn to express themselves creatively in their artwork, fostering emotional intelligence and confidence in themselves.

Music

Our online music courses are available for students in primary school and secondary school. Music education offers children a mixture of cognitive, emotional, social, and physical learning experiences through the universal language of sound. Music enhances memory, sharpens attention, and improves problem-solving skills by reading notation, recognising patterns, and playing instruments. They will explore essential musical concepts like rhythm and meter, pitch, melodic contour, tempo, and articulation. Similarly to art, music provides an outlet for self-expression and helps to develop emotional intelligence.
