Outstanding Achievements and Innovation
The Annual British International School Awards were held on 21st January in London’s Connaught Rooms, recognising the outstanding achievements and innovation found in British International Schools around the world. Shrewsbury International School Bangkok Riverside was named winner for the category Supporting Student Pathways to College/University.
The School has a well established reputation for academic excellence, highlighted once again by this year’s exam results which yielded 70% A*/A at A Level and 69% A*/8+ at iGCSE; results which rank Shrewsbury among the best international schools both in Thailand and The Region.
A Holistic and In-depth Support
Their award success comes in the same week that Shrewsbury announce that six of their final year students have been offered places at The University of Cambridge, further testament to the talent and hard work that characterise Shrewsbury’s exceptional students, and the quality of teaching and Higher Education support offered to them at the school. The Higher Education team is made up of expert advisors with specialisms in USA, UK and Thai universities who attribute the school’s success in university placements not simply to student’s fantastic exam qualifications, but to a range of carefully designed initiatives such as the Jumpstart Programme, that are introduced throughout Shrewsbury’s Senior School. Together, these measures help to inform, engage and prepare students and their parents in the journey towards and through the university application process. This ongoing work also helps the Higher Education team to build a strong rapport and an in-depth knowledge of each student’s strengths, ambitions and personality. In return this helps the team to guide students towards institutions and courses are the best suited to their needs and interests.
Unique Opportunities at Renowned International Universities
The holistic and in-depth support provided by the Higher Education team has proven to be very successful over the years with students being offered places at renowned international universities, including the Oxbridge and Russell Group UK Universities and leading American Universities including the Ivy League. In 2018 Shrewsbury’s graduating class earned 425 offers from leading universities including multiple Oxford, Cambridge and Ivy League offers. With offers to the likes of Stanford, Parsons, Brown, LSE, and the Nottingham / Srinakharinwirot joint medical programme already sitting alongside the six Cambridge offers, 2019 is also shaping up to be another successful year.
On the award, Chris Seal, Principal at Shrewsbury Riverside said;
“Winning awards only comes after huge amounts of hard work and dedication. In this particular case, it was the foresight of my predecessor Stephen Holroyd to construct a world-leading Higher Education department that has been so fundamental to the success and opportunities our students continue to have beyond their school career. The department is expertly led and work tirelessly to ensure that we place students in the very best institutions for them. Joanne Fretwell (Director of Higher Education), Rachael Walker, Therese Overton, and Stuart Markes who make up this team are heartily congratulated.”
