JOURNALISM CHAMPIONSHIP
Like every year, the local newspaper Il Resto del Carlino has organized the journalism contest “Cronisti in Classe”, inviting students from primary and secondary schools across Emilia-Romagna to participate.
Every week from February to May, the newspaper publishes articles written by young reporters, who explore and reflect on key topics such as the environment, politics, religion, and sports.
Teachers and schools are enthusiastic about supporting their students in this initiative, encouraging them to express their viewpoints through writing. One of the main objectives of the contest is to give voice to the younger generations, allowing them to share their ideas and values through a “non-conventional” medium like the newspaper—something not often used by today’s youth.
Smiling International School was proud to take part once again this year, as it does annually, with its 6th grade classes, guided by teachers Elena Berveglieri, Sarah Khaneboubi, and Guglielmo Trevisani.
This year, the Smiling 6th graders explored the world of artificial intelligence by asking a few AI apps/chatbots the question: “How will AI replace our future jobs?” They interviewed ChatGPT, Deepseek, and Copilot, receiving a variety of insightful answers that sparked deeper classroom discussions.
In addition, the students investigated the phenomenon of “Brainrot Language”, a term linked to the younger generation’s interaction with technology and social media.
Learning how to craft an article from scratch helped the young reporters build their confidence, improve their writing skills, and sharpen their critical thinking abilities.
All the time and effort dedicated to this project paid off—Grade 6A and 6B of Smiling International School were honored with a well-deserved prize as “Miglior reportage sul mondo giovanile”. Congratulations to our talented 6th graders!
