This week, our youngest students at SSIS had a memorable celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival during their Chinese class, where they took part in a series of fun and culturally enriching activities. The celebration provided an opportunity to learn about the holiday’s traditions while fostering creativity and a sense of community.
The festivities began with storytelling sessions, where the students listened to Chinese folktales and rhymes, including the famous story of Chang’e, the Moon Goddess. Through these captivating tales, the children learned about the historical and cultural significance of the Mid-Autumn Festival, deepening their understanding of the festival’s importance in Chinese culture.
Creativity flourished as students participated in a lantern-making activity. With vibrant colors and unique designs, each child crafted their own lantern, symbolizing the festival’s themes of light, hope, and guidance.
In addition, the students had the chance to learn how to make traditional mooncakes. Guided by their teachers, they carefully prepared the sweet treats, which hold special significance during the festival as symbols of reunion and togetherness. In a heartwarming gesture, the children delivered the mooncakes to the school’s staff, spreading joy and gratitude throughout the community. Their excitement and enthusiasm resonated throughout the celebration, making the festival a truly memorable occasion for everyone involved.
Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!
