Why families choose a Private school in Europe?

Choosing the right educational pathway for their children is one of the most important decisions parents can make. In Europe, a significant number of families opt for private schooling, drawn by several compelling advantages that these institutions offer. Understanding why can help parents make informed choices about their child’s educational future.

Academic Excellence

One of the primary reasons families gravitate towards private schools in Europe is the promise of academic excellence. These schools often feature a low student-to-teacher ratio, which means more individual attention and tailored instruction that can adapt to a child’s unique learning style. Furthermore, private schools frequently have access to advanced resources and offer a wide range of extracurricular activities, enhancing the learning experience and fostering a well-rounded education.

Cultural and Linguistic Diversity

Europe is rich in cultural diversity, and private schools here mirror this variety. They attract students from across the globe, providing an environment where children can develop international mindedness and cultural sensitivity from an early age. This exposure is invaluable in our increasingly globalized world and can offer students unique advantages in higher education and beyond. Additionally, multilingual education is a staple in many European private schools, with languages often taught from a very young age, further enhancing cognitive development and future career opportunities.

Unique Educational Philosophies

Many European private schools are founded on distinct educational philosophies and pedagogies, such as Montessori, Steiner, or the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. These schools offer alternative learning environments that emphasize holistic education, critical thinking, and creativity, appealing to parents looking for options outside the traditional education model. Such philosophies often encourage a more engaged and active form of learning which can be particularly beneficial for students with diverse educational needs or those who thrive in less conventional settings.

Preparation for Higher Education

Private schools in Europe have a strong track record of preparing students for higher education, boasting high matriculation rates to prestigious universities worldwide. The rigorous academic preparation, coupled with dedicated college counseling, helps students navigate the complex process of university admissions. This comprehensive support system ensures that students are not only ready to take on higher education but also excel in it.

Networking and Alumni Connections

Attending a prestigious private school can also provide students with early networking opportunities. Alumni networks are often well-established and can be instrumental in opening doors for internships, mentorships, and careers post-graduation. These connections are built throughout a student’s time at school and can be a significant advantage in the highly competitive job market.

In conclusion, the choice of a private school in Europe is driven by a combination of superior academic standards, diverse environments that foster cultural and linguistic skills, unique educational approaches, thorough preparation for higher education, and valuable networking opportunities. Each of these factors plays a crucial role in why families decide to invest in a private education, hoping to provide their children with the best possible start in life.

Parent and Student Reviews

  • As parents of a boarding student, my husband and I could not be happier with our son’s experience at this school. Academically, he has been challenged and encouraged in equal measure. The teachers are rigorous but at the same time approachable and genuinely invested in their students’ growth. When I visited the school and was introduced to his teachers, they were able to offer detailed feedback on my son’s academic progress immediately, and it was clear that they knew a lot about his personal preferences and identity. The school atmosphere is disciplined yet warm: students seem to know where they are going and move with a sense of purpose, and the principal knows each and every one of his students. There is a sense of a close community where teachers, students, and parents know and support one another. The boarding facilities and care are truly outstanding. The residence has its own cook, dining and entertainment areas, a beautiful garden with a pool overlooking the city, and it is located in one of the most charming parts of Córdoba. The boarding team, excellent professionals, combines structure with warmth: they encourage creativity while maintaining clear expectations regarding daily routines. They have created a real sense of community among students from many different countries and backgrounds, and they respect and facilitate individual needs in terms of sports, arts, and religious practice. What has impressed us most is the level of personal care and communication, something we missed in previous schools our son attended. When our child fell ill and needed to go to the hospital, staff members stayed in close contact with us at every step, providing timely updates and emotional support to both him and us. Our son genuinely feels he is part of a family—staff members at the school often invite him to lunch with their families. The school’s psychologists know the students well and work closely with them. I was surprised by how much the main psychologist knew about my son’s study habits. There are many extracurricular opportunities supporting students’ specific interests—from Model United Nations and cultural outings to sports activities in Córdoba and ski trips to the Sierra Nevada. The school also offers meaningful service opportunities with different organizations in town (like the Alzheimer’s Society, for example) that teach students to be responsible, caring community members and citizens, which we find essential in contemporary education. A dedicated university guidance office also supports students as they plan their next steps and visit universities across Spain. For our family, this has been an excellent academic and living experience for our son. It is the best educational choice we could have made, and we recommend the school wholeheartedly.

A fantastic school. The leadership is very visible, something you don’t see in all schools. My kids are happy and developing not just academically but as well-rounded individuals thanks to a wide range of activities both in class and outside. A focus on curiosity and independence is key for success today. I couldn’t recommend TEMS highly enough.

  • I spent two months at the school and I had a very positive experience. I was warmly welcomed by both the teachers and the students and immediately felt at home. All my requests regarding the timetable were taken into account, and the individual students are also very well supported in other areas. I had a wonderful time at the school and am grateful that I was accepted at such short notice.

Being rather shy, contained to himself and not speaking English our son started 7 years ago at grade 5. He developed to an open minded, critical person, self confident knowing about his talents and what he wants to look his life like. He made close friendships and even teachers became friends. Starting grade 12 this year he said that he doesn’t want school to end as he could not imagine to have a better time in life. What to say more?<div>P.S.: my older son attended a public &nbsp;school- the difference is tremendous!</div>

Our two kids (16, 12) are attending the school now for 4, 3 years as day-students. We love the family-style environment as well as the stunning surrounding. The school offers great care for our kids and the great 1:5 teacher-stutent-ratio helps them to develop their skills and grow their personality! There is a broad variety of extra-curricular activities and our kids love to either develop their passion further or try something new… overall the best choice we could think of although the financial investment shall not be overseen!

Our two kids have been at St. Gilgen International School since Grade 5 (now in Grades 6 and 8), and we couldn’t be happier with our choice. The teachers truly know and support each child, and the community feels warm and welcoming.

The location is absolutely stunning – surrounded by mountains and the lake – and the outdoor activities and experiences make this school so unique. Our kids love going to school, which says it all!

Yes, it’s a big investment, but the education, personal growth, and opportunities they receive are worth every cent. We’re proud to be part of the St. Gilgen community.

  • Our experience in Montessori British is really good, we started many years ago. We see the students, and feel very proud that they have had the opportunity to study here, the teachers have been vital during the learning process and have helped to become who the students are today but foremost important who they will become in the future. I see students who succeed here when noone believe in them, and they are going to University to full of experience and selfsteem

  • The American School in London has been a wonderful experience for our family. Academically, the school is rigorous and well-rounded, offering a curriculum that challenges students while encouraging critical thinking and creativity. Beyond the classroom, ASL offers an incredible range of extracurricular opportunities. My kids have been able to explore and grow in so many areas — from participating in the French National Honor Society and playing on the Basketball and Volleyball teams, to performing in Band and competing on the Robotics Team. This wide array of activities has allowed them to pursue their diverse interests, build confidence, and develop meaningful friendships. ASL truly supports well-rounded development and provides an environment where students feel challenged, supported, and inspired. I couldn’t recommend it more highly.
