At BIS, our mission is to empower and inspire students to achieve their full individual potential and become global citizens. Underlying all that we do to fulfill this mission are a few simple, but very big ideas. These ideas guide us in making smart, student-focused decisions, appropriate to our school mission and not too wrapped up in trends that come and go. These concepts, and the skills they foster, are woven through all aspects of life and learning at BIS.

Voice: we listen to students and value their expertise, opinions and ideas. Giving students more say in the classroom strengthens practical problem solving, leadership and creative thinking skills.

Choice: students follow their interests and enjoy a breadth of offerings and possibilities to explore and experiment. The role of a teacher is to channel individual enthusiasm and coach students to identify their strengths.

Ownership: students are not passive recipients of facts and figures. They are active creators in the classroom and responsible for steering their own education in a positive, participatory, goal-oriented manner.

Future-ready: the most important skills needed for future success are no longer content-based. Executive skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, agility, resilience, entrepreneurship, and communication are key to thriving in the workplace and as a person.

BIS offers three continuous programmes within the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IB) curricular framework. This organisation was founded in Geneva, Switzerland in 1968 to address the needs of students whose families moved often and changed educational systems frequently while doing so. Today, the IB is one of the fastest growing curricula in the world and includes more than 5800 schools in 160 countries, with more than 2 million students.

Our school is the only school in our region to offer a comprehensive IB programme starting in Early Learning (age 3) and continuing through to Grade 12.

Why we choose the IB:

Education: the IB curricular framework promotes important future-ready skills and mindsets. It provides a rigorous academic foundation andconnects learning in the classroom to real world context.

Values: the IB is conceptualized to develop compassionate and culturally aware children . It prioritizes wellbeing and healthy, well-rounded lifestyles and supports children in being partners to direct their learning

Practicality: the IB is designed for students who are internationally mobile, changing schools and countries often. It is not a national curriculum, rather it draws from evolving best practice from around the world. An IB Diploma is a highly valued university qualification, allowing graduates to study all over the world.

Our Co-Curricular Programme offers students new ways to experience success, make new friends and explore their unique talents. Our programme spans everything from the arts to sports, languages to political debating clubs. More than 85% of our students participate in one or more co-curricular offerings.

Students participate in sports and activities during lunchtime, before and after school as well as during school holidays. Some sports and activities run all year long, others run for a season (three seasons per academic year). Some offerings incur a fee.

At a minimum, our Co-Curricular Programmes includes these offerings:

Early Learning: after school care, holiday camps and sports including swimming, football, gymnastics

Grades 1 - 5: after school care, holiday campus, arts including origami, art club, creative writing, music, choir and sports including dance, football, running, swimming

Grades 6 - 12
Academic support: homework, maths, drop-in clubs
Arts: art club, choir, creative writing, theatre
Competitive sports: basketball, cricket, football, golf, running, swimming, volleyball
Recreational sports: badminton, basketball, football, volleyball
Debating & public speaking: Model United Nations, TedXYouth
