Why choose a private school in the US?
Choosing a private school in the United States for your child’s education can be a transformative decision, offering unique benefits that public schools might not provide. One of the foremost reasons parents opt for private education is the commitment to academic excellence. Private schools are renowned for their rigorous curricula and dedicated faculty. These institutions often feature smaller class sizes which significantly enhance individualized attention and closely monitored academic progress.
Personalized Learning Experience
Private schools excel in providing a tailored educational journey. With fewer students per class, teachers can focus more on individual student needs and adapt lessons accordingly. This approach not only strengthens academic understanding but also boosts students’ confidence and engagement with the material.
Enriched Academic Opportunities
Another compelling aspect of private schooling is the breadth of academic programs and extracurricular activities available. From advanced placement courses and international baccalaureate programs to unique electives and clubs, these schools offer diverse opportunities that cater to a wide range of interests and talents. This variety encourages students to develop a well-rounded skill set and explore new areas of interest in a supportive environment.
Community Environment and Values
Private schools often nurture a close-knit community atmosphere where every student is known and valued. This sense of community is strengthened through shared values and missions that are a cornerstone of many private educational institutions. Such an environment not only supports social and emotional development but also fosters a strong sense of belonging and teamwork among students.
Preparation for Future Success
The benefits of private schooling extend beyond the classroom. These institutions prepare students for future academic endeavors and professional success. With a strong emphasis on leadership skills, critical thinking, and ethical conduct, private schools strive to develop responsible, well-prepared individuals. Many also maintain robust alumni networks that benefit students by providing connections and opportunities well into their careers.
The decision to enroll your child in a private school in the U.S. involves various factors including family values, educational goals, and the specific needs of the child. By offering a nurturing environment focused on holistic development and academic rigor, private schools stand out as a compelling choice for parents seeking the best educational avenues for their children.

Parent and Student Reviews
- September, 2025My kids are currently in their 11th year at this school and in high school we are truly seeing the benefits of a full language immersive IB education. Both fluent in Spanish (at 14 and 16) my children are doing college level analysis and writing on a daily basis. They are taught not only how to plan and research a topic, but how to relate it to their lives and to the greater community, and then how to carefully review and integrate feedback- all leading to college preparation that gives the kids such confidence as they begin their college search. Also, every graduate I’ve ever met has the ability to engage and connect with teachers and other adults with a maturity beyond their years. All with an approach that encourages the kids to be self reliant and resilient- key factors in success that are harder and harder to find. What felt like a risk early on (throwing my kids into a full langauge immersion) has paid off in spades. Last- we are an incredibly tolerant and safe space for a diverse group of students and families!Show more
- March, 2025We visited this school for an open house event in the winter. We cannot say enough good things about the faculty. They were a group of incredibly experienced people from around the world, and also very welcoming. You don’t always see that from top talent. With its location next to New York City, the IB, waterfront, and huge campus, this is going to be one of the best schools in the world.Show more
- We have been parents here at Fairfax Christian for the past three years. We now have a child in each level of the school, lower, middle and high school. The school kept our children safe and in school during the tumultuous time of the pandemic and we will be forever grateful. We have been blessed with teachers who are attentive and care about the character and education of our children. The challenging curriculum, diverse student population and a Christian education will keep our family at Fairfax Christian.Show more
- February, 2023As a teacher myself, I have a very discerning eye when it comes to evaluating an academic environment; LILA – Los Feliz is truly 5 star in every category. My son is happy and enthusiastic about his experience. The after school programs are also great – we do Tae Kwon Do, Art, and Chess. The teachers are so dedicated and skilled. We are not a French speaking family, but we are thrilled that our son is becoming a bilingual, compassionate, and independent member of the global community!Show more
- February, 2023Our boys attended this school from 2012-2017, they ‘grew up’ so happily here. It’s a wonderful diverse environment for learning and community. Although we speak limited French at home they emerged as bilingual; more importantly as boys who are open, accepting, worldly wise and curious. This school and the learning experience it offers will stay with you forever.Show more
- February, 2023Our kids have been attending for 7 years now. While no place is perfect, we’ve found the school to be an amazing and beautifully cultivating educational experience for our kids. It’s not easy to get in and we consider ourselves very lucky. The community there is fantastic and we’re finding parents we absolutely adore. I highly recommend you visit the school and see for yourself. We love it there and couldn’t recommend it more highly!Show more
- February, 2023Fairfax Christian School (FCS) has been a great foundation for all my children. They are all excelling academically, thanks to the challenging curriculum at FCS. Thank you, FCS!Show more
- February, 2023Fairfax Christian School is providing my son the academic challenges we feel we have missed at other schools. When he graduates, we feel he will be well prepared, academically, for college.Show more
- February, 2023My years at FCS were highlighted by dedicated, excellent teachers whom I respected. The wealth of the information, the teachers, imparted has added value: they often enlivened class periods with stories and experiences from their own lives and spoke of the lessons they had learned. Many of those stories I have recounted to my sons through the years. I am grateful for memories and friendships with classmates that have lasted these many years.Show more
- February, 2023Fairfax Christian School has been a spectacular learning environment for my daughter. Small class sizes, individual attention from the teachers, and a focus on fundamentals have instilled a real passion for learning. Equally importantly, the strong moral atmosphere of the school has reinforced her sense of right and wrong/good versus evil, something that will serve her long after her school days are over.Show more
- February, 2023Thank you! Everyday I am amazed at how much my daughter has progressed and is learning. Every single person I’ve come into contact with is joyful and gracious. We are beyond grateful for this opportunity. My daughter’s teacher is absolutely amazing and my daughter is thriving. Your school is a testament to your dedication.Show more
- February, 2023The international atmosphere at The Fairfax Christian School has been a tremendous blessing for my teenagers. They have learned a lot from their fellow students about other countries and cultures. I have also seen their sympathy and willingness to help and befriend people from different backgrounds grow enormously. We were attracted to the Fairfax Christian School by its rigorous academics, but the school culture has been an unexpected bonus.Show more
