Academics
Early Years Curriculum
In BIS Houston's Early Years Preschool programme, qualified and highly experienced teachers nurture children to develop foundational learning skills which equip them for a lifetime.
From the age of three, they focus on developing the whole child. Their international research-based curriculum follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework which fosters emotional well-being and cognitive and social development. Broken down into contemporary thematic units, the curriculum creates a love of learning through play and fun filled collaborative experiences which are relevant to their children.
Primary School Curriculum
Their Primary School follows a holistic, enquiry-based approach to learning that focuses on building each student’s curiosity, independence and agency. They ensure their students feel
supported, challenged and inspired while providing ample opportunities to discover who they are and how they learn.
The learning programme is centred around each student discovering who they are – both as a learner and as an individual. They follow the English National Curriculum and the International Primary Curriculum, and their young learners additionally benefit from specialist classes in world languages, physical education, and the performing arts, which includes our Juilliard-enhanced curriculum in music and dance.
The International Primary Curriculum guides their students in learning rigorous content though engaging thematic units which encourage them to apply their learning in different contexts. Children are challenged to solve real world problems involving interdisciplinary knowledge, skills and understanding.
Middle School Curriculum
Middle School is an exciting, transitional time in a student’s school journey. Students explore and develop as learners, making critical life choices about who they are, how they work, what they aspire to be and how they intend to get there.
BIS Houston's middle school curriculum provides students with a broad and balanced approach to study. Benchmarked against elements of International Middle Years Programmes and the National Curriculum of England and Wales, courses are adapted for their diverse international school community. Alignment with the IGCSE and International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma and Career-related Diploma courses ensure that learners gain a solid foundation to acquire the required level of knowledge and understanding for success in High School.
Learning is underpinned by their well-being support programme, which develops the
individual skills students needs to build resilience, bounce back from challenges, and understand themselves and others. Students are also supported by one-to-one conversations with subject teachers and tutors about their learning.
Academically, their students attain very high standards at all ages. Success is measured not only in academic achievement, but also in terms of growth in maturity, the development of social awareness, self-discipline and motivation, and a respect for the individual.
High School Curriculum
Building upon their commitment in middle school to develop the best possible learners, students enter our high school with a range of skills and experiences, ready to focus on achieving the best possible outcomes.
At BIS Houston, their goal is for students to graduate with both excellent academic results and a full and vibrant portfolio demonstrating the skills, motivation, learning experiences and qualifications which will have the greatest positive impact in their future communities.
Their aim is to ensure that all graduates are prepared for college academically, socially and emotionally by providing a rigorous and balanced high school offer that develops the knowledge, skills and understandings required to be successful in college life. Their experienced college counselors understand admissions to universities locally and around the world, aiding students to make the best choices for their future."
