Description

Founded in 1954, Chiang Mai International School (CMIS) is an independent, co-educational, non-profit day school for students from Pre-School to Grade 12. CMIS provides high quality education in a caring social and cultural environment. Built on a tradition of providing educational excellence in a caring community, CMIS has been helping meet the educational needs of the international community in Northern Thailand for over 62 years. CMIS offers an English-language, American-sourced education taught from an international perspective. Our well-qualified teachers provide instruction that is aligned to a standards-based curriculum focused on active learning. The academically rigorous Advanced Placement (AP) courses offered in our high school help prepare our graduates for admission to outstanding universities and colleges around the world. CMIS students grow to become confident, articulate, globally-minded learners who excel in many areas, including the arts, athletics, academics, community service, and leadership. This tradition has resulted in CMIS being known to many as the best international school in Chiang Mai. Today, CMIS is a dynamic international school with over 500 students from more than 31 different countries, but still small enough to retain a friendly and relaxed campus environment. It also remains true to the traditions of its founders, serving missionary families and maintaining the heritage and values of the Christian faith at the heart of the school. In order to keep pace with the needs of our expanding international community in Chiang Mai, CMIS has recently implemented a 3-year campus development plan to create more classroom space and to maintain and renovate existing buildings.

CMIS offers opportunities for student growth and personal development through Student Life Beyond the Classroom programs and activities. These programs are designed to meet a broad range of student needs and concerns. At CMIS, we provide opportunities which align with the CMIS Mission Statement and allow for personal, social, spiritual, intellectual, artistic, and physical growth. Beyond the Classroom activities include Competitive Sports, Faith and Service, and Clubs and Activities. CMIS belongs to the Chiang Mai Athletics Conference (CMAC), and runs both competitive and recreational teams in the following sports: badminton, basketball, football (soccer), futsal, swimming, table tennis, track and field, and volleyball. CMIS invites students to pursue their individual interests for faith and service, both on and off campus. Although the school does not sponsor religious services, students are permitted to use school facilities to hold meetings and events. The CMIS Service Learning Program supports high school students in completing 60 hours of service learning before graduation. CMIS defines service learning as making a difference through actions of caring for others, either in the school or in the community. It includes direct service, indirect service, and advocacy. CMIS offers a variety of clubs, activities, and student organizations. These opportunities allow students to pursue passions, explore new interests, and gain valuable leadership experience while working alongside an adult group leader/adviser.
