Overview
Haut-Lac International Bilingual School
— Founded in 1993, Haut-Lac International Bilingual School is an independent day and boarding school that began with thirteen students and continues to grow and develop.
— Its location and diverse international student body give students the chance to explore their own and other cultures in a global context.
— Small class sizes allow teachers to closely follow each student’s individual progress.
— Students are encouraged to adopt positive, responsible, and caring attitudes, both in class and within the wider school community.
— A strong school–parent relationship, more than 150 extracurricular activities, and many collaborative opportunities create a stimulating and supportive environment where students can fully develop their potential.
English and Bilingual Streams
— An English-only stream runs parallel to the bilingual stream at all levels, designed for families:
On short-term contracts in Switzerland, or
Not seeking a bilingual education.
Students can transfer into the bilingual stream at any time.
— The bilingual French/English programme (Infant and Primary sections):
Is taught by native French- and English-speaking teachers.
Follows a one day–one day schedule alternating between languages.
Ensures equal exposure to both English and French.
Prepares students to enter bilingual IB programmes (MYP, DP, and CP) at secondary level.
IB Middle Years Programme (MYP)
— Designed for students aged 11–16.
— Offers in-depth study of traditional subjects within a challenging, skills-based framework.
— Encourages creativity, reflection, and critical thinking.
— Highlights how school subjects are interconnected, promoting a broad understanding of global issues.
— Develops adaptability and problem-solving through five cross-curricular “areas of interaction.”
— Fosters intercultural awareness, tolerance, and respect, helping students grow into responsible global citizens.
IB Diploma Programme (DP)
— Encourages a broad and balanced education across six subject groups:
— Language A, Language B, Individuals and Societies, Experimental Sciences, Mathematics, and The Arts.
— Students may take the IB Diploma:
— In English, French, or bilingually (some subjects in each language).
— Includes three core elements central to the IB philosophy:
— Extended Essay (EE)
— Theory of Knowledge (TOK)
— Creativity, Action, Service (CAS)
— Offers a holistic education, equipping students with the skills and mindset needed for higher education and life beyond.
— The IB Diploma is recognised worldwide by leading universities.
Additional Programmes
— IB Sport & Study Programme – combines academic study with intensive sports training.
— Swiss Option – allows students to complete their final school years in a Swiss state school.
— US High School Diploma – prepares students for entry into US and Canadian universities.
— IB Career-Related Programme (IBCP) – provides pathways in:

Boarding and International Experience
— Since September 2022, Haut-Lac’s English, French, and bilingual programmes have also been available to international students and athletes seeking a family-style boarding experience on the Swiss Riviera.
— With local and international peers, a caring boarding team, and exciting evening and weekend activities, students grow into confident global citizens ready to take their place in the world.
