International education extends far beyond the classroom, and events like the Nord Anglia Europe STEAM Festival 2026 demonstrate how powerful collaborative learning can be for young people.
Recently, Year 6 students from Hamelin-Laie International School travelled to Dublin to take part in the annual festival, hosted by Nord Anglia International School Dublin. Bringing together students from schools across Europe, the event provided an opportunity to explore Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) through a range of practical challenges, workshops and team projects.
Over three days, participants worked alongside peers from different countries, combining their ideas and perspectives to solve problems and develop innovative solutions. While STEAM learning formed the foundation of the festival, the experience also helped students strengthen essential skills such as communication, teamwork, adaptability and creative thinking.
One of the event highlights was a visit to Microsoft’s Dublin campus, where students gained insight into how technology and innovation influence modern industries and everyday life. Another memorable experience was exploring Explorium, Dublin’s interactive science centre, where hands-on experiments encouraged curiosity and scientific discovery.
Beyond the academic programme, students had the chance to experience Dublin’s culture and atmosphere. Exploring the city and engaging with peers from diverse backgrounds helped broaden their understanding of the world and foster valuable international friendships.
For Hamelin-Laie students, the festival represented more than a learning opportunity, it was a chance to collaborate in a genuinely global environment and gain first-hand experience of the intercultural mindset that international education seeks to promote.
The school’s involvement in the initiative will continue next year, as Hamelin-Laie is set to host the 2027 Nord Anglia Europe STEAM Festival in Barcelona. The event will welcome students from across the region, creating new opportunities for collaboration, innovation and cross-cultural exchange.
Experiences such as the STEAM Festival highlight the growing importance of international networks in education. By connecting students from different countries and encouraging them to learn together, schools are helping prepare young people for an increasingly interconnected world.
