Taejon Christian International School was established in 1958. As the first three-program IB World School in Korea, TCIS provides an excellent student-learning environment. We pride ourselves on providing a large number of experience opportunities that go together to support our curriculum. The learning partnership established by teachers, parents, students and other support staff develops high quality, internationally focused educational programs.
As a boarding school, our quality education and warm community are available to families from Korea and all over the world. TCIS recognizes and fosters the development of each student’s unique personality, intellect, and identity. Using an engaging and effective inquiry-based learning approach, students set goals, develop research skills, reflect, self-assess, and apply new understandings to real-life experiences. Students learn to ask challenging questions to solve problems and design solutions. We also both encourage and enable students to identify their passions and locate ways to pursue them in real and meaningful ways.
The idea of service education aspect is a central one to the mission of our school. The organizers of the TCIS service education programs plan local, national, and international initiatives in order to develop the students’ understanding of external perspectives in other cultures, to gain a respect for their traditions and to ignite a passion to become caring global citizens. As an IB World School, we see the combination of critical thinking and technology as essential to student learning.
The use of information and communication technologies provides students with powerful tools with which to develop skills in research, collaboration, and communication. Digital technology tools, when applied in an inquiry-based curriculum, facilitate differentiated learning, preparing students for success in an increasingly digital and globalized world. Our large, green campus is located in the hills overlooking the well-known Techno Valley, Daejeon. We offer a beautiful, healthy campus in one of the most technologically advanced areas of Asia.
Our campus is in the northern district of Daejeon, away from a congested city center, but still very close to the city proper and by highway to Seoul. The city of Daejeon has approximately 1.5 million people and all of the cultural opportunities available in a city of this size. It is an important, fun, and dynamic city in Korea. Many parents like the location of our campus because of the cleaner air quality and green surroundings, removed from the northern border areas of Korea. Residence Life, as we refer to our boarding program, is fun and educational. The residence program can be instrumental in preparing for a college experience away from home. TCIS emphasizes a family-like atmosphere in all of our residence houses and promotes love and respect for one another. TCIS has an accredited boarding program and deliberately hires full-time, qualified staff, with experience working with youth.
