EUROPEAN INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF BARCELONA was founded in 1996 by a group of dedicated educators led by the Herranz-Frías family. With a long history in education, the founders sought to create a space where students could grow and develop in all aspects of their lives.

We are an independent school with a humanistic, ecological and international approach, constantly evolving and highly capable of tailoring programs to the needs of each student. We strive to optimize the time students spend with us, fostering the development of their talents and skills, cultivating sensitivity to sustainability and highlighting the unique and singular contributions each student can offer to society. We support and guide them in their humanistic and academic growth.

With 1500 pupils of over 60 different nationalities, our project, under the guidance of a stable academic team, begins in Nursery and culminates in the 2nd year of Baccalaureate. At this stage, pupils have the option of taking the National Baccalaureate, the International Baccalaureate or the American High School Diploma.

The school is located just 15 km from the centre of Barcelona and is surrounded by the natural environment of Collserola Natural Park. The campus extends across 20,000 m² and features modern facilities including classrooms, laboratories, dining areas, an auditorium, kitchen facilities and a large sports centre with two indoor swimming pools.

EISB also offers a specialised boarding programme for students enrolled in its high-performance football pathway, combining academic excellence with elite athletic development.

The European International School of Barcelona (EISB) offers a complete international education from Nursery (from 9 months) through to pre-university level, within a personalised and family-oriented environment, where each student follows a unique academic pathway.
Our educational model combines strong academic foundations with flexibility, allowing students to follow tailored pathways based on their strengths, interests and future aspirations. In the Early Years and Primary stages, students benefit from a multilingual curriculum supported by the Cambridge International programme, providing an excellent academic and linguistic foundation.
In Secondary and Baccalaureate, students are guided by our academic and psychopedagogical teams to choose between internationally recognised pathways, including the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), the Spanish National Baccalaureate and the American High School Diploma. This flexible approach enables access to leading universities in Barcelona, Spain and internationally.
EISB is distinguished by its immersive multilingual environment. English, Spanish and Catalan are used as vehicular languages, while students also study French and choose between German or Chinese, achieving proficiency in up to five languages. All languages are taught by native or specialist teachers, creating a natural and effective learning experience. Newly arrived students are supported through our International Homeroom programme, ensuring rapid linguistic and academic integration.
We offer a wide range of internationally recognised examinations, including Cambridge International (Primary and Secondary), SAT, Cambridge English, Trinity College London (English and Music), DELF French examinations, Goethe-Institut German examinations and HSK Chinese examinations.
Technology is fully integrated into learning across all stages. Students develop digital and critical thinking skills through a STEAM-based approach, including programming, robotics, artificial intelligence, 3D design and web development. Each student is provided with a Chromebook and uses Google Classroom as part of their daily learning experience.
Our strong international outlook is reinforced through a wide range of exchanges and enrichment programmes. Each year, over 500 students take part in academic, cultural and sporting experiences in countries such as the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Italy, Portugal and China. Students also engage in initiatives such as Model United Nations (MUN), the European Youth Parliament (EYP), International Maths Quests and ISSA competitions.
EISB students consistently gain admission to leading universities in Barcelona, Spain and internationally, including ESADE, IE University, the University of Navarra, University College London (UCL), King’s College London, the London School of Economics (LSE), the University of Oxford, Rotterdam School of Management, the National University of Singapore, Boston University, New York University and Pennsylvania State University, among many others.
Many students also receive academic and sports scholarships at universities in the United States through our partnership with AGM Sport.
School life at EISB extends beyond the classroom, with a wide range of extracurricular activities, extended hours and services, as well as a student residence for international families, making EISB a truly global learning community.

At EISB we offer a wide range of activities to provide students with the opportunity to enjoy their favourite activity without having to leave the school, while . These include football, dance, basketball, music, swimming, drama, rhythmic gymnastics, synchronized swimming, triathlon, arts, cooking, chess, judo, robotics and BTT… within renowned Sports and Arts Schools that take part in national and international competitions.
