Merrick Preparatory School (MPS) is a day and boarding school located in the village of Merrickville, Ontario on the shores of the historic Rideau Waterway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Just 45 minutes from Ottawa, the nation’s capital, Merrickville has been twice voted the prettiest town in Canada and MPS has access to all the nation’s capital resources for our students. Our village offers a quiet safe place for students to remain focused on their academics where many of the villagers know our students by name. With an average class size of ten students and a maximum capacity of 60 boarding students, 20 local day students and 30 live-online synchronous learners, our students receive individualized attention and support from highly trained, certified and dedicated teachers in nurturing family-like environment. Students from over 20 countries make MPS a distinctly Canadian and uniquely international school. Since our founding in 2012 we have maintained a 100% university acceptance rate for our graduates to world-ranked universities, with many students on scholarships.
“Whether your child is excelling academically or needs to improve their GPA, our inclusive, safe, diverse and caring community, with individualized academic attention will improve academic standing, confidence and self-esteem.”
MPS offers grades 9 – 12, University Qualification Year and an English As a Second Language Foundations Program. Each grade and program has distinct advantages, including our Advisor Program which focuses on life skills, our co-curricular program which focuses on mind, body and community development, and our community involvement program which focuses on compassion and empathy. Each student has one hour of tutorial support daily from their teachers and boarding students have two hours of dedicated evening study with guided support from our residential life supervisors. For grade 12 and University Qualification Year students we focus on “life after MPS” and provide one-on-one university guidance, support scholarship applications and provide three hours of IELTS preparation per week. Our graduates earn the #1 world-ranked Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) which is recognized by universities around the world. Over 80% of our graduates receive offers from the University of Toronto (#1 university in Canada).
Merrick Preparatory School was Awarded on Fortune’s World’s Leading Boarding Schools in 2023 List AND K12 Digest has featured Merrick Preparatory School (MPS) as one of 10 Prominent Boarding Schools to Watch in 2023.
Fortune and Statista selected the World’s Leading Boarding Schools through an independent survey applied to a vast sample of more than 700 participants and 2000 evaluations. 17 Canadian boarding schools made the list and Merrick Preparatory School is the only non-CAIS school. On K12 Digest’s “10 Prominent Boarding Schools to Watch in 2023” only 2 Canadian Boarding Schools made the list, and we were one of them. In September 2021 it was announced that Merrick Preparatory School is the winner of the PIEoneer Awards 2021 for Secondary Learning International Impact, recognized as “the best in the world.” Merrick Preparatory School also hits the Toronto Star recognized as “The Best In the World”.
Extra curricular
Daily after-class activities, weekend outings, and field trips create the core of our Student Life program. Students from different countries, religions, and languages mix with local Canadian students to create a rich and diverse community we call the MPS family. With a student population of 80, our students are more like brothers and sisters than they are peers and colleagues. This unique community sets us apart – a special, distinctly caring place where our students develop courage, resilience, compassion and life-long friendships that span the globe.
Merrick Preparatory School students participate in a wide variety of co-curricular activities. These engaging and diverse activities make MPS a vibrant and cohesive school community. Co-curricular are offered from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings and are included in the tuition fee. In addition to the co-curricular list below, MPS also offers a variety of Residential Life Activities throughout the year on weeknights and weekends.
