Op een internaat zijn de klassen doorgaans veel kleiner dan op openbare scholen, waardoor elke leerling profiteert van de grotere aandacht van de leraren. Karakterontwikkeling

Natuurlijk is de scheiding van de ouders door inschrijving op een internaat, misschien ver van huis of zelfs in een ander land, niet altijd gemakkelijk voor kinderen vanaf het begin. Over het algemeen passen ze zich echter snel aan aan het wegblijven van huis en maken ze nieuwe vrienden op school, omdat ze meer tijd met hun klasgenoten doorbrengen dan ze ooit op de dagschool zouden doen. Bovendien ontwikkelen ze meer zelfredzaamheid en onafhankelijkheid van hun ouders dan thuis. Vanaf de eerste tot en met de laatste jaren kan internaat kinderen een gevoel van onafhankelijkheid bieden dat hen door het leven helpt. Dit alles kan ertoe bijdragen dat internaten de school met een volwassen houding verlaten en zich voorbereid voelen op de eisen van het universitaire leven.

Dit is een groot voordeel bij de start van een universitaire opleiding, omdat de overstap naar een studentenhuisvesting minder groot is dan de overstap naar een internaat. Bovendien krijgen kinderen tijdens de aanpassingsfase op school veel aandacht en pastorale zorg van gespecialiseerd personeel, wat op de universiteit meestal niet beschikbaar is. De overgang naar het internaat en vervolgens naar de universiteit verloopt daardoor meestal veel soepeler dan de overgang van dagschool naar universiteit.

Omdat er overal ter wereld uitstekende kostscholen te vinden zijn, is het een goede keuze om naar een kostschool te gaan waar men de taal spreekt die u vloeiend wilt leren spreken.

Onderzoek toont aan dat taalonderdompeling leerlingen al op jonge leeftijd helpt bij het ontwikkelen van cognitieve en communicatieve vaardigheden. Naast het dagelijkse schoolwerk motiveren kostscholen hun leerlingen om talen te leren door leuke activiteiten aan te bieden die taalonderdompeling bevorderen, zoals buitenschoolse clubs en activiteiten.

De meeste kostscholen bieden ook gerichte taallessen aan voor anderstaligen die hun lees-, schrijf- en spreekvaardigheid in het Engels, Spaans, Duits, Frans, etc. verder willen ontwikkelen.

Less Time Commuting
Living at School Means Less Time Commuting, More Time to Study. Many of our boarders come from Bangkok or busy cities in neighbouring countries, where they’ve swapped slow city traffic for a short walk through school grounds. This gives our boarders more time in their day to focus on the things that matter most, such as study, music practice, and exercise. Our boarding houses have dedicated study rooms that allow students to spend their spare time putting in extra hours where needed. We respect, and indeed instil, an ethos to work hard… but the House Parents also help the children in their care to strike a good balance of work and play. Our after school boarding activities are run by teachers and tutors, meaning the children who board with us have more exposure to these academic guides.
