Cultivating Compassion and Curiosity: LAS Cultural Trips and the Art of Experiential Learning

Here at Leysin American School, we aim to offer our students a unique mix of international adventures and enriching cultural experiences. With a curriculum that extends beyond the classroom, we take our students to all corners of the globe through travel programs that provide cultural sharing, language immersion, unique learning opportunities, and memories to last a lifetime. During these cultural trips and weekend city trips, we take students to the places they read about in their classes. This immersion not only broadens their learning but also plays a big role in personal development and bonding with friends.

At LAS, we believe that travel aids self-discovery, allowing students to work on themselves while also honing essential skills such as independence, teamwork, and compassion. The personal development achieved through travel creates students who are well-rounded and it challenges them to adapt to new surroundings, engage with diverse cultures, and share meaningful experiences with their classmates.

Beyond personal growth, travel at LAS promotes global citizenship and develops compassion for communities and cultures around the world. For instance, the surfing trip to Portugal includes a beach clean-up, demonstrating how students can make a positive impact on the places they visit. Similarly, our trip to Madeira emphasizes environmental awareness by exploring sustainable projects and marine life, empowering students to actively combat climate change. The main service-related trip each year is in partnership with the Sethule Orphans Trust in Zimbabwe, which provides students with invaluable insights into the experiences of others and develops empathy, understanding, and a passion for making a positive impact.

From visiting the Colosseum in Rome, to eating delicious cuisine in Monaco, to beach cleanups in Portugal, and painting Venetian masks in Venice, LAS cultural trips and weekend city breaks offer students a chance to broaden their horizons beyond the classroom. We love that our students have the opportunity to travel not only within Switzerland but across the world! During their time at LAS, students not only learn in the classroom but become intrepid travelers and citizens of the world. Travel opportunities at LAS forge new friendships, teach valuable lessons, and create unforgettable memories that last a lifetime.
