Overview
Enlightening boys to shape a better future
We know the world needs more good men. Men who are inspiring role models, empathetic leaders, uplifting partners, loving fathers, and positive changemakers.
At Scotch College, we provide a holistic, values-based education that strives to prepare boys for fulfilling, meaningful lives of contribution. Our curriculum is underpinned by a character-based framework and, from Prep to Year 12, our boys are engaged in a breadth of programs that instil an outward-looking perspective and sense of purpose.
Scotch College sits on one campus, on the banks of the Yarra River in Hawthorn, while our Outdoor Education programs are conducted at purpose-built campuses in regional Victoria. We offer every type of opportunity for boys to discover their purpose and passions, encouraging them to aim high in every endeavour while keeping their feet firmly on the ground.
Academics
The Scotch Family and its broader community surround our boys with positive role models and foster a culture in which each student’s unique personality and personal agency are recognised. Boys are treated as active and valued contributors to their own learning and encouraged to build mutually respectful relationships with their teachers and peers. This environment fosters inquiry and critical thinking through open dialogue and respectful debate.
Our research-informed pedagogies engage and expand young minds, balancing theoretical understanding with practical application to real-world contexts.

Extra-curricular Activities
Scotch offers a broad elective and co-curricular program, allowing boys to develop their determination, self-worth and curiosity through artistic endeavour, physical activity, and exploring the natural world.
Purpose of co-curricular
This aligns with our commitment to three key outcomes of our holistic approach to education.
Learning for self, to achieve personal fulfilment and explore passions.
Learning for others, where boys explore the power of contribution and societal advancement.
Learning for its own sake, where boys unlock a wonder and curiosity for the world around them, helping them to find meaning and inspiration.
Our co-curriculum is taught by subject masters, and delivered in our specialised learning spaces, to give students the guidance and environment to excel.

Things to Know
Enrollment
As a genuinely non-academically selective school, we offer standard intake years in Prep, Year 4, Year 7, as well as a limited intake in Year 9. Applications for non-standard intake years are also accepted on a case-by-case basis. Additional places are also available for boarders, to ensure we can welcome boys from regional, rural and overseas backgrounds.
Health & Safety
The College doctor holds clinics one lunchtime each week. The doctor is also available on request and, together with other consultants used by the College, provides a full range of medical services to ensure students’ health. The boarders’ health centre is well equipped, with a six-bed ward, convalescence room, doctor’s consulting room, dispensary and accommodation for nurses. A resident nurse lives on-site, providing care 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Whenever boys are admitted to the health centre, parents and/or guardians are contacted as soon as possible. Full fee-paying overseas students are covered by the Australian Government’s Overseas Student Health Scheme. Documentation for this scheme and payment of the annual subscription are organised by the School. The scheme covers 85% of the scheduled fee for a consultation with a doctor, and full cover in a shared ward in any public hospital. Boys who are Australian residents and permanent citizens are covered by the national health insurance scheme, Medicare. They may take out additional private insurance if desired.
