Description

Founded in 1947, La Garenne International School is one of the leading primary/middle boarding schools located on the balcony of the Swiss Alps. Owned and managed since two generations by the Méan family, our school is set in the charming alpine French speaking ski resort – Villars-sur-Ollon – which provides secure environment for our students. Our Philosophy is based on traditional values, strong sense of responsibility, kindness and security which are the key elements for a successful and balanced life.

Each academic year we welcome 80 boarding and 30 day students, aged from 4 to 14 years old and from over 25 countries. La Garenne prides itself of an English-French bilingual approach, it gives students expertise in two languages. Students follow the English official national curriculum, from Reception to Year 9, taught in small classes by experienced teachers from the UK. The school aims also to develop a high level of mastery of the French language, even though the main language of study is English. All Junior students take lessons in French as a Foreign Language. The students are prepared for the official French language examinations, the DELF programme and for those students who are native speakers and those who have a strong level of French, we offer an optional programme called ‘Français renforcé’. Our French teachers are all mother-tongue French speakers and many other members of staff are highly proficient in French.

In summer camp, we welcome 90 young-learners – from 5 to 14 years of age – also coming from close to 30 countries. We do propose different stays in July and August of 2, 4 or 6 weeks in during which campers experience a varied programme, well balanced between learning, playing, discovering and sharing. Our combination of the English and French section makes our camp enriching and our students’ integration and adaptation being a must for us, our ratio of adults and students is 1:2. The same team of professionals works during the school year as well as the summer camp to provide a safe environment for our young learners.

Finally, our winter camp offers children aged from 8 to 14 years the opportunity to enjoy languages lessons – French or English – and an amazing experience of skiing/snowboarding in our well-known resort. We do propose different sessions from January to March enabling campers to share incredible moments with our school year boarding students.

Whether during the school year programmes or during our camps, we offer a maximum of opportunities – sports, expeditions in the region, arts, music, teaching of more than 8 languages, school and cultural trips – for the children to arouse their curiosity and to improve their enquiry skills so that they become the protagonist of their future life.
