We are pleased to expand our language programme with a new academic pathway for our Turkish-speaking students. From the 2026–27 academic year, ISR offers Turkish as a taught academic mother-tongue course from Grade 9 onwards for native Turkish-speaking students.
This gives students the opportunity to maintain and further develop their first language at an academic level and, later, continue with Turkish A: Language and Literature in the IB Diploma Programme, available at both Standard Level and Higher Level. Placement is based on each student’s language proficiency, academic background and teacher recommendation.
Turkish now joins ISR’s already broad language programme. English is our language of instruction, while German is taught to every student from Kindergarten onwards. From Grade 6, students add a third language, with French and Spanish available as additional languages and Japanese and Chinese offered to native speakers.
Within the IB Diploma Programme, students can now study Language A in English, German, Japanese, Chinese and Turkish. For our native Turkish-speaking students, this creates a clear pathway from Grade 9 through to the IB Diploma — strengthening their mother tongue academically while continuing to develop the other languages that are such an important part of an ISR education.
We believe that a strong foundation in a student’s first language, combined with confidence in additional languages, provides valuable preparation for university, international study and life beyond school.
We are proud to further expand our language programme and to offer our Turkish-speaking students a clear academic pathway that values their linguistic identity and supports their future success.
