Hangzhou International School year begins with spirit of togetherness at annual PAFA Welcome Lunch

We were thrilled to kick off the school year with our annual Hangzhou International School PAFA Welcome Lunch! PAFA stands for Parents and Friends Association, and has been part of HIS since 2002.

With more than 90 parents gathering to celebrate and connect, it was an afternoon filled with warmth, laughter, and the unmistakable spirit of community.

Upon arrival, each parent was greeted with a personalized name tag, inviting them to share their name and their child’s grade. This small gesture created an immediate sense of belonging, helping everyone feel right at home.

To help everyone stay organized and prepared for the year ahead, we also gifted each family with a colorful school calendar and a handy PAFA fridge magnet.

The PAFA social lunch team consisting of Anuja, Katie, Kristine, Aman, Rajni, Vanessa, Lulu, Stefanie, Naziha and Yilan, extended a warm welcome to the whole community marking the beginning of the event. The delicious buffet spread, featuring a variety of delectable dishes, was a highlight that fueled the friendly chatter among parents.

One of the evening’s most enjoyable moments was the engaging questionnaire game, where parents had the opportunity to connect with others from their child’s class. This fun-filled activity sparked conversations, shared stories, and fostered new friendships, making it easier for everyone to bond.

Following the game, Ms Andrea, HIS Director of Admissions & Community Relations, took to the stage to articulate the mission and values of PAFA. She emphasized that it is about nurturing friendships, supporting one another, and enhancing our vibrant school community. By engaging with PAFA, parents not only contribute to their children’s experience but also enrich their own through shared experiences.

Ms Andrea also outlined the various ways parents can get involved in PAFA activities, which include:

  • Fitness Sessions: Get moving and stay healthy while connecting with other parents
  • Book Club: Dive into captivating literature and engage in stimulating discussions
  • Kitchen Team: Learn new recipes from all over the world and also share yours as you make new connections
  • Cheer Squad: Join in the excitement and support our school events with enthusiasm
  • Luncheons: Participate in organized gatherings that provide an opportunity to relax and socialize

Whether you want to spearhead an activity or simply participate, there is a perfect fit for everyone at HIS PAFA.

As the event came to a joyful close, we captured the spirit of our gathering with a group photo that showcased the beaming faces of our community.

We are truly excited to welcome all new parents into the HIS family and are eager for what lies ahead. Throughout the year, we invite you to take part in more PAFA events and initiatives.

Together, let’s make this a memorable year for our children and create lasting connections as parents. Here’s to an incredible school year full of growth, friendship, and fun!
