Outdoor Learning at Acorn International School: Building Skills, Resilience, and Connection

At Acorn International School, Outdoor Learning is a vital part of our educational approach. Using nature as an extension of the classroom, we nurture enquiry, critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity—essential skills for the future.

Outdoor Learning improves child development, enhances wellbeing, and strengthens children’s bond with the natural world. Research shows that time outdoors fosters independence, problem-solving abilities, and emotional resilience, preparing students to face an increasingly complex and interconnected world.

Our spacious, green campus offers endless opportunities for exploration and hands-on experiences. Students engage in activities like tree rubbings, insect classification, nature-inspired art, and forest adventures. A standout example: Year 4 students collaboratively designed and built a large shelter, developing engineering skills, resilience, teamwork, and creativity through trial and error.

By integrating Outdoor Learning into daily life, Acorn inspires a deeper understanding of sustainability and ecosystem interdependence. We believe that fostering a love for nature from a young age is essential in raising responsible global citizens who will care for and protect our planet.

At Acorn International School, the outdoors is not just a setting—it is a dynamic, living classroom where students grow intellectually, socially, and emotionally every day.
