Waarom kiezen voor een IB-school in Azië?
De IB-organisatie werd oorspronkelijk opgericht als reactie op het gebrek aan flexibiliteit in de verschillende schoolsystemen over de hele wereld. Tegenwoordig wordt het IB-onderwijssysteem erkend in meer dan 100 landen over de hele wereld, en veel van de grote Britse en Noord-Amerikaanse universiteiten staan zeer positief tegenover toekomstige studenten met een IB-diploma. In een artikel in The Telegraph werpt John Claugthon, aftredend Chief Master van King Edward’s School, licht op enkele van de redenen waarom scholen over de hele wereld ervoor kiezen om het IB Diploma Programma aan te bieden. Hij wijst op de breedte van het programma als een van de belangrijkste motivaties: “IB-scholen geloven dat de oude dispensatie naar de enge wereld van specialisatie niet meer zal volstaan.” Veel universiteiten over de hele wereld volgen deze gedachtegang, en een toenemend aantal universiteiten ze herzien hun toelatingscriteria om meer IB-afgestudeerden aan te trekken. Claugthon noemt onder meer King’s College in Londen, en wijst op het feit dat 20 procent van de nieuwe studenten aan de universiteit IB-studenten zijn. Als je op zoek bent naar een opleiding die je stimuleert en uitdaagt, maar ook hard werken vereist, dan ben je bij het IB aan het juiste adres.
Van de gevarieerde geografie en adembenemende natuurverschijnselen tot de vriendelijke inwoners en hun buitengewone culturen, Azië kan misschien het beste worden gedefinieerd door één woord: diversiteit. Het is geen verrassing dat de tijgereconomieën van China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Maleisië en Zuid-Korea aantrekkelijk zijn voor avontuurlijke studenten die graag kostschool willen gebruiken als springplank naar een internationale zakencarrière. Het studeren van een vreemde taal op een kostschool in Azië geeft studenten de oefening en het vertrouwen die ze nodig hebben om vloeiende taalkundigen te worden.
