On 11th and 12th June, students at the International School of Schaffhausen once again proudly upheld the honour to hold a Model United Nations (MUN) conference 2024 for students in Grades 6 to 10 in Secondary.
MUN stands as a platform to introduce the world to the next generation of leaders. Alongside improving research, listening, and cooperation skills, MUN serves as a chance to help students learn tolerance and open-mindedness. Learning to research, speak confidently, and represent countries with various ideas is important to help a student develop the necessary skills that they will need in the future.
During MUN, the students became delegates, representing a country and participating in debates about real topics like, “The Effect of Authoritarian and Illiberal regime on Economies and Societies”, “The Effect of Rising Sea Levels on Economics and Societies” or “Tackling the Issues of Drug Trade”. All students researched and learned about their country, to support them in presenting their country’s perspective during the debate, mimicking the real United Nations proceedings. As The Model United Nations is a role-play version of the actual United Nations, delegates were expected to dress formally and use a specific language.
At the end of the conference, the delegates wrote Resolution Papers, containing solutions for the issues at hand which were voted on and presented at the Closing Ceremony. There were also awards and prizes were given to each committee for best delegate, best speaker, and honourable mention.
