BBIS IS A LEADING INTERNATIONAL DAY AND BOARDING SCHOOL
Welcome to BBIS Berlin Brandenburg International School, a place where students are empowered to reach their unique potential and thrive on a global stage.
While English is our language of instruction, BBIS is a truly international school.
Our students hail from families who come from across the globe and share our values of humanity, tolerance and empathy. Together, we are building a caring, internationally minded community of students, teachers and alumni – people who truly have the potential to leave a positive mark on our world.
Every year, we welcome around 680 day students and around 70 boarding students, from 3 to 19 years of age. These students spend their days developing invaluable, life-long skills like critical thinking, languages and intercultural competencies across our early education, primary and secondary areas:
In all of these programmes, we encourage students to be courageous and explore new opportunities, fostering a pioneering spirit that will help them succeed, no matter what the future holds.
Our overarching goal at BBIS is to help students become happy, well-rounded humans.
Our classes are small – usually with fewer than 20 students – so that everyone receives individual attention and support. Beyond the classroom, collaboration and cooperation between staff, students, parents and the wider community is very important to us.
Growing up is not easy, but we understand the challenges and changes that occur. We support our students with dedicated, caring professionals at every step of the way. This nurturing approach – coupled with 24/7 security and a strong child-protection policy – makes BBIS a safe and supportive environment for your child.

Through the ECA programme, our students meet new friends, learn how to be risk-takers, and share and learn new passions – all while having fun along the way! It’s a great way to learn new skills and fully become part of our international school community.
With a diverse range of activities on offer, the ECA programme aims to further open the minds and eyes of our students, to give them new challenges to look forward to. The activities change every year. Some examples of recent options include:
Primary school:
Secondary school:
And many, many more.
Our diverse and supportive boarding community is a ‘home away from home’, where students have the freedom to learn new skills, study and socialise with peers and the boarding team. As well as fostering lifelong learning and independence, it’s a place where lasting friendships are formed.
Boarding life is all about balance. At BBIS, while every day is different, our structured schedule includes plenty of free time for extra-curricular activities or further study. And, along the way, students have the support they need to feel safe and comfortable in striving to reach their potential.
HEALTH AND WELLBEING
BBIS Boarding promotes a culture of positive health and wellbeing, and we work hard to help students live a healthy lifestyle. We encourage participation in extra-curricular activities and provide mentors for every boarding student, who offer academic and social support throughout the year.
Our school nurses are available in the boarding house each day, providing assessments and care when needed. Boarding students are also supported by the school’s health team and Student Support Services. In addition, our Boarding School Counsellor is available during the day and in the evenings for academic, health and wellbeing support.
When required, we can accompany boarding students to medical appointments.
ACTIVITIES, CLUBS AND EVENTS
Our boarding students take part in many different activities, clubs and events, both at school and in the wider community in Kleinmachnow and Berlin. As well as the school’s extra-curricular programme, BBIS Boarding offers a full programme of weekday and weekend activities and clubs. Recent examples include:
Many boarding students take part in off-campus activities, playing sport for local clubs and teams, and spending their free time exploring surrounding areas. We regularly take students on excursions to local attractions and, twice a year, we head off on overnight trips to places like Rügen, Hamburg and Dresden.
