BISP Hosts Another Record-Breaking FOBISIA Mathematics Code Breaking Competition

The FOBISIA Code Breaking Competition returned to BISP this year with over 110 schools taking part from across Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas.

The FOBISIA Code Breaking Competition returned to BISP this year with over 110 schools taking part from across Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas. The 2025 edition was another resounding success, giving thousands of young problem-solvers the chance to test their skills in one of the largest school-based mathematical competitions in Asia.

Throughout the week, students tackled a series of intricate challenges, earning leaderboard places as they cracked each level. This year’s competition featured seven unique challenges, including a Murder Mystery, a Spy Challenge, a Python Coding Challenge and the notoriously tricky Test of Genius.

The numbers highlight the scale of the event:

  • 35,000+ unique users
  • 1.8 million page views
  • 40,000 code levels completed
  • 30,000+ hours of code-breaking fun

BISP Students in Action

At BISP, all Year 4–6 students enthusiastically took part under the guidance of Sam Lord and the Primary team. Their commitment and skill were outstanding, with special recognition going to:

  • Anastasia (Year 3) – first in her year to crack Level 1A
  • Harrison (Year 4) – first in his year to crack Level 1A
  • Emma (Year 5) – first in her year to crack Level 1A
  • John (Year 6) – first in his year to crack Level 1A

In Secondary, the Mathematics department coordinated challenges for Year 7 and Year 8 students, as well as the Maths Wizards after-school activity. Highlights included:

  • Elena (Year 7) – first in her year to crack Level 1A
  • Nita (Year 8) – first in her year to crack Level 1A
  • Ulyana (Year 9) – completed Level 3
  • Na-Phatsara (Year 8) – completed Level 4

Code breaking and mathematics share common ground, requiring perseverance, logical thinking and sharp problem-solving skills. At BISP, we are proud to offer our students opportunities to apply mathematics in engaging, real-world contexts that spark curiosity and a lifelong love of learning. Although this year’s competition has concluded, the excitement does not have to stop.
