Year 11 History students at The British School of Córdoba build essential leadership, negotiation, and public speaking skills during a student-led internal Mini MUN conference.

At The British School of Córdoba, training the leaders of tomorrow means providing authentic spaces for debate, critical thinking, and international collaboration. A perfect example of this is our recent Mini MUN (Model United Nations) session. This highly impactful activity was fully driven by Year 12 students, Benito and Yaroslava, who organized and ran the entire event as part of their International Baccalaureate (IB) CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) project.

The simulation specifically involved our Year 11 History class, giving these young learners a valuable opportunity to understand how the United Nations works, gain deep knowledge of global politics, and develop exceptional public speaking skills. Students came thoroughly prepared with their own research and speeches. Throughout the academic session, they were shown how to make formal interventions, form strategic diplomatic alliances, and follow official UN procedures.

This edition stood out for its rich diversity, featuring a brilliant representation of our  international students from countries such as Germany, Ukraine, the USA, and France. Stepping into the roles of global delegates, they faced the challenge of researching complex world issues, drafting resolutions, and defending their assigned nations’ perspectives.

This internal initiative serves a vital academic purpose. Our school proudly participates in the prestigious annual MUN Conference in Madrid each autumn. By engaging in this practical training, our Year 11 students ensure they will be well-prepared to represent the school at a national level.
