World Championship Qualifiers
An outstanding performance in the Skills category at the VEX V5 Robotics Competition in Basel on February 28–March 1 has earned the TASIS Tigers 2 robotics team a spot at the 2025 VEX Robotics World Championship in Dallas, Texas.
Signs of Spring
Springtime sun and rain showers brought flowers to La Collina d’Oro, the Hill of Gold.
Carnevale Fun
The Elementary School celebrated Carnevale on March 4 with costume parades in the morning (Pre-K to grade 1) and afternoon (grades 2–5).
Gaining Perspective
Fourteen High School students and three faculty chaperones spent eight days in Athens and Lesvos on a new Opsahl Global Service Program trip to Greece on March 1–8. The group met with organizations working on the frontlines of refugee response in the region, saw firsthand how communities have been impacted by migration, and returned to campus with a greater perspective on the current situation.
Swiss Winter Fun
More than 240 High School students and 32 faculty chaperones took to the Alps for a snowy Academic Travel trip in Engelberg on March 5–8. The group had ample time for snowsports, Swiss culture, community building in the mountains, and the beloved Fleming Cup.
Siena Study Session
TASIS seniors enrolled in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) spent March 3–8 in an intensive study session in Siena to prepare for their spring exams.
Swiss Experience
Grade 6 students and faculty chaperones spent March 3–5 in Zurich bonding as a grade and learning about Swiss Culture.
Winter Adventure
Students in grades 7–8 spent March 3–6 in the mountains above Andermatt on the Middle School’s annual Winter Adventure trip.
One TASIS Family
On March 6, nearly 90 TASIS alumni and guests reconnected in London at an all-class reunion at the Swiss Embassy.
Designing the Future of TASIS
Classical architect and urban designer David Mayernik gave an excellent presentation about the rich history and exciting future of the TASIS Global Village to Middle and High School students at assemblies during the school day on March 10 and to parents later that evening.
True North
On March 11, Elementary School students in Laurent Carsana’s Grade 2 Science class used a needle, leaf, and bucket to construct a makeshift compass and launch a unit on the Earth’s magnetic field.
Do-Re-Mi
Elementary School Music class on March 11 included rhythm work and a chance for students to share their musical talents with their peers.
Supporting a Great Cause
The second annual Joe Dusing Memorial Blood Drive was held on March 12 and was once again a big success with another great turnout from the TASIS community. We are grateful to the 67 community members who donated blood; to Ms. Angela Dusing, Dr. Jill Sawyer-Price, and all of the 10th-grade students in the Joe Dusing Blood Drive Service Learning group; to the many faculty and staff members who worked so hard behind the scenes; and to the Swiss Red Cross. Thanks to the collective efforts of all involved, this community-building event will save or support hundreds of lives while continuing to honor the legacy of Joe Dusing, the former Multimedia Coordinator at TASIS.
Local Legend
Simone Meister’s Middle School Advanced German class visited the Hermann Hesse Museum in Montagnola on March 12. The students took a guided tour in German and gained insight into the life of the renowned writer, poet, and painter. The field trip provided inspiration for the students’ own short stories and deepened their connection to the area around TASIS.
Artist Visit
On March 13, Fritz Horstman, a professional artist and the Education Director at the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation in Connecticut, spoke with TASIS architecture students about his work and career path.
Poetry Slam
Grade 2 students penned poems and shared them with their parents on March 14 in Hadsall.
Musical Preview
During a High School assembly on March 17, the cast members of the Spring Musical, All Shook Up, performed a few songs to build excitement for the show set to premiere the following week.
Global Service Partner Visits Campus
Vijo Varghese, co-founder of OurLand Nature Reserve and Education Center in Kanchanaburi, Thailand, visited campus on March 17–19 for the fourth and final chapter of the 2024–2025 TASIS Speaker Series. Mr. Varghese delivered an engaging keynote address to the senior class in the Palestra, spoke to the entire High School at an assembly, and met with a number of economics and biology classes over the course of his three-day visit.
Founded in 2015, OurLand is a wildlife reserve and education center located at the southern tip of the Western Forest Complex and Salakphra Wildlife Sanctuary—a region heavily impacted by habitat loss, degradation, and human-wildlife conflict. TASIS has partnered with the organization through the Opsahl Global Service Program since 2022.
All Shook Up
The cast and crew of the High School Spring Musical put on four stellar performances of All Shook Up in the Palmer Cultural Center on March 20–23.
Ping Pong Players
Middle School students enjoyed a table tennis unit in their physical education class during the month of March.
Talents on Display
Year 2 IB Visual Arts students exhibited their impressive artwork in the Palestrina over the weekend of March 21–23.
Winter Warriors
High School varsity athletes and their coaches gathered in Villa De Nobili on the evening of March 26 to celebrate the conclusion of another successful winter sports season.
Book Week
During the week of March 24–28, the Elementary School celebrated reading and writing with lots of exciting Book Week activities. Students dressed up like idioms and their favorite literary characters, heard from guest readers from all over campus, “dropped everything” and read outside, perused a book fair, met with visiting authors, and more.
Hands-On Learning
Ms. Inna Kralina, a practicing artist and mother of a TASIS Elementary School student, visited a 2nd-grade art class on March 27 to lead a finger-painting workshop.
Climb Ev’ry Mountain
The cast of the Middle School spring musical, The Sound of Music, rehearsed in the Palmer Center on March 27.
The Building Blocks of Life
Grade 5 students used microscopes to take a closer look at thin slices of onion on March 28. The young scientists observed block-like structures that they identified as cells.
Hall of Fame Advice
TASIS Athletic Council members Niva Smith ’27 and Savannah Randall ’26 conducted an interview with Major League Baseball Hall of Fame member Mike Piazza during the Winter Athletics Assembly on March 31. Mr. Piazza, who is considered to be the best-hitting catcher in the history of baseball, graciously answered a variety of questions about his life and career and offered some excellent advice to the aspiring athletes in the room—namely, that they should find the right coach who can guide them, understand their own strengths and weaknesses as they seek to improve as a player, and dedicate themselves to their craft with the understanding that this will require making sacrifices in other areas.
