Weaving Tradition with Technology: Branksome Hall Asia’s Innovative Collaboration with Jinny Connect

At Branksome Hall Asia, the fusion of traditional craftsmanship and modern innovation is more than an educational philosophy—it’s a lived experience. Our recent collaboration with Jinny Connect, a leader in textile CAD software, exemplifies the profound impact of enterprise-school partnerships on student learning and development.

From Hand-Stitched Heritage to Digital Design

In a recent project, our Grade 9 MYP Design students embarked on an exploration of traditional Korean clothing. They began by crafting their own 저고리 (hanbok jackets), immersing themselves in the cultural and historical significance of the garment. This hands-on experience provided a tangible connection to Korea’s rich textile heritage.

Transitioning from needle and thread to pixels and code, students then utilized Jinny Connect’s advanced textile CAD software to digitize their designs. This shift not only introduced them to cutting-edge industry tools but also highlighted the evolution of fashion design in the digital age.

Real-World Engagement and Feedback

The collaboration extended beyond software usage. Students were invited to provide direct feedback to Jinny Connect’s development team, offering insights from a user’s perspective. Their thoughtful suggestions impressed industry professionals and led to a deeper engagement.

A highlight of this partnership was a visit to Clo Jinny Connect’s Seoul office, where students Yunjee Nam, Seoyun Choi, and Juyoung Oh presented their experiences, discussed potential software enhancements, and participated in hands-on training sessions. This exposure provided them with invaluable insights into industry practices and the real-world applications of their classroom learning.

The Broader Impact of Enterprise-School Collaborations

Collaborations between educational institutions and enterprises are increasingly recognized for their role in enhancing student learning. According to the National Education Association, such partnerships develop higher-level thinking skills and boost students’ confidence and self-esteem . By engaging with industry professionals, students gain practical experience, understand workplace expectations, and see the relevance of their studies in real-world contexts.

Furthermore, these collaborations benefit enterprises by providing fresh perspectives and fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation. As highlighted by the National Education Association, collaborative learning environments encourage the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills, which are essential in today’s rapidly evolving industries .

Conclusion

The partnership between Branksome Hall Asia and Jinny Connect serves as a compelling example of the transformative power of enterprise-school collaborations. By bridging traditional education with industry practices, students are not only equipped with technical skills but also inspired to become innovators in their own right.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Ms. Kseniya Maksimava and Mr. John Palmasano for their leadership in this impactful project. Their dedication has paved the way for our students to connect classroom learning with real-world applications, preparing them for the challenges and opportunities of the future.
