From two beautiful moving-up ceremonies and several end-of-year celebrations to the conclusion of an outstanding academic year and the start of the renowned TASIS Summer Programs, we offer a photo-driven look at the past month at TASIS.
Bidding Farewell
Middle School students and faculty convened in the Palmer Cultural Center on May 30 for a touching Farewell Assembly that featured a poignant speech by 8th-grader Juan Carlos Maldonado Castillo, performances by the Middle School choir and drama classes, and a celebratory slideshow created by Mr. James Williams.
Toasting a Legend
On May 30, TASIS faculty and friends gathered in Casa Fleming to celebrate the legendary career of Mr. Mark Aeschliman, who has taught at TASIS since 1979! Mr. Aeschliman taught Architecture & Design and Art History and retires from TASIS having left an indelible mark on many generations of graduates and colleagues.
Comedy Night in the Palmer
High School students in Mr. Bill Dalton’s and Ms. Amy Vander Heiden’s AP Language and Composition classes (and a few special faculty guests) performed William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream in the Palmer Cultural Center on the evening of May 30.
Alumni Give Back
Organized by the College Counseling Office, four recent TASIS alumni returned to campus on June 3 to speak casually with current students about their university experience and the application process that brought them to their current places of study.
Friendly Competition
Middle School advisor groups spent June 4 at the state-of-the-art Centro Sportivo Collina d’Oro competing in more than a dozen fun activities ranging from tug of war and a 50-meter sprint to Zorb soccer and beach volleyball.
Young Pianists
Students from the piano studio of Ms. Angela Perini performed in the Palmer Cultural Center on the afternoon of June 4.
Field Day Games
Pre-Kindergarten through grade 1 students kicked off Elementary School Field Day with a series of friendly games on the morning of June 5.
Fun in the Sun
Students in grades 2–5 then enjoyed a number of fun activities on campus later that afternoon.
Lots to Be Grateful For
Students from Pre-Kindergarten through grade 5 gathered in the Palestrina on June 6 for an Elementary School Farewell Assembly in which students from each class presented something they learned or were grateful for this year.
Making the Leap to High School
During their Moving-up Ceremony on June 6, 8th-grade students took time to reflect on their Middle School years before they collected their certificates and officially advanced to High School.
Time to Step Up
Grade 5 students celebrated their final moments of Elementary School by performing two songs together and sharing their hopes for Middle School during the ES Moving-Up Ceremony on June 7.
Master Teacher Announced
Congratulations to the 2024 Khan-Page Master Teacher Award recipient, Tamara Schumacher! Headmaster Christopher Nikoloff announced the selection at the final all-faculty meeting on the afternoon of June 7 and had high praise for the High School EAL/Art History teacher, who is retiring after 18 wonderful years at TASIS.
Early Summer Reunions
The TASIS Classes of 1994, 2004, and 2019 returned to campus for reunions in June. The groups toured campus and enjoyed elegant dinners in Villa De Nobili and the Casa Fleming Garden.
Helping Out in Cambodia
From June 7–19, 17 High School students and four faculty chaperones participated in an Opsahl Global Service Program (GSP) trip to Cambodia. The group helped build a home and provided service both in the Cambodian countryside and at local educational facilities in Siem Reap.
Serving Southern Africa
On their GSP trip to southern Africa from June 7–19, 19 High School students and four faculty chaperones provided service in both rural and urban communities within Zambia and Botswana. The group helped construct a mud house, spent time at schools, and held art workshops for street children.
Another Record-Setting Summer
On June 23, families from around the world flocked to campus for Opening Day of the 2024 TASIS Summer Programs. The total of 870 students from 69 nations that will be attending the Summer Programs for either session one (June 23–July 18) or session two (July 21–August 10) establishes a new enrollment record for TASIS!
