International Week is one of our most cherished celebrations at Leysin American School, as it showcases the extraordinary cultural richness that makes our community so unique. With students representing more than 60 nationalities, LAS is a vibrant tapestry of traditions, perspectives, and lived experiences. Throughout last week, our community came together to learn from one another, honor each other’s heritage, and joyfully celebrate the diverse identities that shape and strengthen our LAS Global Family.
Parade of Flags & National Dress-Up Day
We kicked off the week with one of our most beloved traditions—the Parade of Flags. Students proudly represented their countries by carrying their national flags through cheering crowds with some students wearing cultural dress. The energy was uplifting, and the event beautifully highlighted the pride our students have in their cultural identities and the warmth of our community spirit.
Student–Faculty Basketball Game
The competition was fierce and the atmosphere full of fun! The student–faculty basketball game delivered impressive athletic effort, plenty of laughs, and a whole lot of school spirit. Every point was hard fought, and while the faculty ultimately claimed victory, both teams displayed excellent sportsmanship and had an amazing time on the court.
Evening with the Stars
Our annual Evening with the Stars was a stunning showcase of student talent. Performances included dance, singing, piano, and guitar, reflecting the wide range of cultures within our community. One student even performed a song in Polish! We were deeply impressed by our students’ creativity, skill, and courage as they shared personal and heartfelt performances on stage.
World Cup Futsal
The World Cup Futsal tournament brought together staff and students for an exciting evening of indoor football. Teams represented various countries, along with a mixed-nationality International Team and Staff Team. The fast-paced matches were a blast to watch, and the enthusiasm in the gym was contagious. In the end, the International Team won—a fitting reminder that blending cultures often leads to great things at Leysin American School.
The Big International Trivia Night
Our Dean of Students closed the week with a lively International Trivia Night, where student teams tackled questions about world cultures, flags, logos, capitals, and global fun facts. The competition was spirited and full of laughter, culminating in an exciting three-way tie. Winners received gift cards to local businesses, adding to the fun and community engagement.
