ISR is recognized by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia as an international supplementary school (“anerkannte internationale Ergänzungsschule”). ISR is an accredited member of Cognia –(Unified organization of the US-based accreditation agencies NCA CASI, SACS, CASI, NSSE, NWAC). ISR is also a Cambridge Examination Centre, an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, and conducts College Board PSAT exams on site.
Academics
ISR offers an international, college-preparatory curriculum. In addition to English and German, a third language is studied starting in Grade 6 with a choice of either French, Spanish, Japanese or Chinese.
In Grades 9 and 10, students are prepared for external examinations such as Cambridge IGCSE – International General Certificate of Secondary Education, DELE – Diplomas de Español como Lengua Extranjera and DELF – Diplôme d’Etudes en langue Française.
ISR offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) for students in grades 11 and 12 and ISR graduates have achieved marks well above the worldwide and German averages and have gone on to study at top universities around the world and in Germany.
We have an outstanding track record qualifying ISR students for studies at universities in Germany. In the past years, 100% of our students, who wished to, entered German universities by meeting special German IB requirements which qualify passing students for their “Allgemeine Hochschulreife”.
Extra curricular
We offer more than 90 different activities by students, teachers, parents, and outside instructors which give our students the chance to explore their talents and broaden their knowledge, such as:
Art Workshop, Athletics, Badminton, Ballet, Baseball, Basketball, Chess, Chinese / Japanese / Persian / Turkish / Spanish, Circuits, Choir, Crafts, Drama, Football, Golf, Gymnastics, Instrumental Sessions, KUMON, Math Club, Orchestra, Racket Sports, Reading Clubs, Rock Band, Running, Volleyball, Capoeira, Fencing, Tennis, Kung Fu, and more.
Our students have the opportunity to join ISR teams in a wide variety of sports and participate in regional and national competitions. At ISR, we are proud to offer an extensive range of exceptional sports facilities. These top-tier facilities are directly accessible to our students, providing ample opportunities to develop their skills across diverse sports disciplines, as well as allowing us to host prominent international sporting events.
Our purpose-built, state-of-the-art sports hall is designed to accommodate up to three physical education classes simultaneously, thanks to electronically operated dividing curtains that maximize available space. The hall features specialized floor markings suitable for badminton, basketball, handball, football, indoor hockey, and volleyball. A standout feature of our sports hall is the indoor climbing wall, which offers both beginner-friendly and advanced climbing routes.
Beyond the indoor facilities, ISR benefits from exclusive access to the adjoining sports complex, an integral part of our campus. This expansive outdoor area includes grass and cinder football fields, a cinder running track, a long jump and triple jump sandpit, and specialized athletics equipment for running, jumping, and throwing. Additionally, our campus features several tennis courts, a beach volleyball court, basketball courts, and football pitches, providing a comprehensive outdoor sports environment. Together, these outstanding facilities support our commitment to fostering physical fitness, teamwork, and competitive spirit alongside academic excellence.
Musically inclined children will appreciate the high-quality music program and talented and dedicated teaching staff. We have a wide variety of instruments available for our students to use. In addition, private music lessons are offered in cooperation with a local music school. Children are able to showcase their talents to the ISR community at two major concerts per year and other performances.
Artistically minded children have a lot of fun in our art program. Here they can experiment with various artistic forms, colors, and techniques. The numerous works of art are regularly exhibited within the school building and also presented at various events, such as the ISR International Spring Festival, ISR Open House, and ISR Family Fun & Sports Day.
