Austria has successfully managed to flatten the curve for new COVID-19 cases and, according to the chief statistician of the city, Klemens Himpele, Vienna has come through the crisis very well (Metropole.at, 11 May). The positive development means that the city is now slowly opening up again, including educational institutions. Therefore, AMADEUS Vienna is now ready with a rigorous resumption plan.
When classes on campus were suspended by government order on 16 March, we reallocated all personnel to the task of providing an exemplary online programme. We have also invested in technology and training in order to take our online capabilities to new levels.
Despite the successful online learning programme, we are happy to open up our campus again. This also includes our boarding facilities, which will be open from 29 May—earlier than most boarding schools worldwide. To limit the number of people gathering, the boarding house will be separated into smaller households.
“I believe we will see many benefits of our online learning research and development in the future, but right now we are very positive about offering face-to-face learning and boarding again“.
– Jeremy House, Head of School
A safe environment where students can thrive
It is important for us to create an environment where students, parents, and staff feel comfortable without compromising on our high academic standards. This is simply necessary in order to fulfill their highest potential. It has taken us some time, working with various Government ministries, to arrive at a resumption plan that we believe provides:
- the necessary safety
- educational rigor
- a happy experience for our students
The resumption plan is based on recommendations of the Ministry of Education, Science and Research on protection from a COVID-19 infection in educational institutions and Schools.
We look forward to welcoming our students back:
- 18 May: Primary School opens
- 18 May: Secondary School opens for Grades 6, 7, 8
- 29 May: Boarding opens
- 03 June: Secondary School opens for Grades 9, 10, 11
For those who are unable to return to school at this time, we continue the online learning. This means that we keep working on the best possible online learning experience to ensure educational distinction off-campus as well as on-campus.
We are very optimistic about the 2020/21 school year; whatever it brings our team has proved that not even distance is an obstacle to successful learning.
