Rugby School Thailand appoints new Head of Senior

The Governing Body of Rugby School Thailand and the Rugby School Group are delighted to announce the appointment of Robert Groves as the new Head of Senior of Rugby School Thailand.

Robert is the Assistant Principal (Academic) at Shrewsbury International School Thailand where he has worked since 2011. Educated at Monkton Combe School, Bath, which he attended as a boarder, he went on to read Natural Sciences at Durham University. He qualified through the Graduate Teacher Programme at Plymouth College where he shared his passion for mathematics in the classroom, contributed to the boarding community, and thoroughly enjoyed coaching rugby and cricket.

Speaking of his appointment, Robert said “I am thrilled and honoured to be appointed and it will be a privilege to lead the Senior section of the School through its exciting next phase of development. Following the traditions of Rugby UK, RST brilliantly captures the balance between a challenging academic programme, co-curricular involvement and a nurturing environment which develops the whole person. The world-class facilities, commitment to excellence, and the boarding school ethos make RST a vibrant and engaging place for students and staff.  During my visits, I have felt the strong collegiate nature of the School. I look forward to joining this community and working with the talented and innovative staff to provide outstanding opportunities that will inspire the young, motivated, and intellectually curious Rugbeians to flourish in an ever-changing, global environment.”

RST‘s Principal, Bruce Grindlay, said of Robert’s appointment, “we had an extremely strong field for this position and Robert impressed the selection committee with his passion for teaching and learning; his appreciation of boarding and a strong enrichment programme and his previous experience of first-rate international education in Thailand. I am looking forward to working with Robert and his team in crafting the next chapter of RST’s hugely successful development.”

Robert will join Rugby School Thailand with his partner and two children in August 2022.
