Smiling International School is one of only two schools in the world to develop the Moonshot! educational project in collaboration with the Houston Space Center.
What is the Moonshot! Project?
The Moonshot! Project is an inspiring educational initiative designed to introduce students to the world of space exploration and innovation. Students will engage in hands-on workshops and discussions, exploring the technologies shaping the future of space travel and how creativity and science are propelling humanity’s journey into space.
Exciting Moonshot! Training at Smiling International School
From February 24th to 26th, Smiling International School hosted an exclusive Moonshot! Project training event, with a team of experts from the Houston Space Center. This three-day event provided teachers with a unique opportunity to engage with space professionals and learn about the latest advancements in space exploration. Activities included creating and launching water rockets, as well as using coding to move rovers on the moon.
From Training to the Classroom: The Hydroponic Germinator
After the training, the high school students worked with their professors to create a hydroponic germinator—a system that allows astronauts to grow plants in nutrient-enriched water. Soil is too heavy and expensive to transport to space, so hydroponic growing provides a more efficient solution.
Curiosities: Hydroponic growing offers faster plant growth with lower water usage compared to soil-based agriculture, making it an ideal solution for space exploration.
We can’t wait to see where this adventure will take us—and our students—next!
