At Leysin American School in Switzerland, our commitment to developing the next generation of problem solvers is evident through our focus on educational and experiential opportunities that tackle global challenges with entrepreneurial thinking, creativity, and innovation. Through an array of courses, we challenge our students and shape them into innovative, compassionate, and responsible citizens of the world. Our Introduction to Entrepreneurship course shows this commitment by actively engaging students with real-world business scenarios.
Recently, our Entrepreneurship classes reached a significant milestone as students showcased sustainable, eco-friendly business concepts to their peers. This project, a culmination of extensive weeks spent in ideation and market analysis, was designed to heighten student awareness around environmental issues while simultaneously focusing on the practical aspects of business feasibility. By creating captivating presentations supported by well-founded data, students were prompted to think critically about financial aspects, innovation, and environmental impact. Some amazing ideas emerged, from expanding electric vehicle charging networks in emerging markets to replacing plastics with innovative recycled paper products.
A select group of entrepreneurs from this class will have the opportunity to participate in a workshop with Goldfinger Design in London in May. This annual journey provides a unique learning experience, allowing students to engage directly with top-tier design and business professionals. Last year’s trip was a resounding success, and our students are really looking forward to their upcoming experiential learning opportunity!
In line with our commitment to sustainability, LAS students also participated in the Swiss Schools Sustainability Summit, a student-led event promoting sustainable practices across international schools in Switzerland. Attending keynote speeches and networking with peers, students engaged in discussions centered on creating a more sustainable future. Inspired by the keynote address, which emphasized innovation and resilience in sustainability efforts, LAS students shared their own initiatives, such as becoming an eco-school and promoting eco-friendly habits within the community.
The summit facilitated meaningful discussions and highlighted the collective responsibility we have to protect our planet. By integrating entrepreneurship with sustainability initiatives, LAS continues to empower students to enact positive change. Equipped with the skills and mindset needed to address the world’s sustainability challenges, we can’t wait to see what our young entrepreneurs achieve in the future!
